Who Is Still In The Nfl Playoffs?
Contents
The NFL playoffs are down to the final four teams. Who will win the conference championships and punch their ticket to the Super Bowl?
AFC
The Baltimore Ravens have clinched the AFC North and are currently the number one seed in the conference. They will face the winner of the Texans and Colts game. The Kansas City Chiefs have also clinched a playoff spot and are the number five seed. They will most likely play the Patriots in the Wild Card round.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. The Ravens compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The team plays its home games at M&T Bank Stadium and is headquartered in Owings Mills.
The Ravens were established in 1996, when Art Modell, who was then the owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced plans to relocate the franchise from Cleveland to Baltimore. As part of a settlement between Modell, the city of Cleveland, and the other NFL owners, Modell was required to leave the Browns’ history and records in Cleveland for a replacement franchise that would continue as the Browns. In return, he was allowed to take his own personnel and team to Baltimore, where such personnel would then form an expansion team. The Ravens have qualified for the NFL playoffs eleven times since 2000, with two Super Bowl victories (Super Bowl XXXV and Super Bowl XLVII), two AFC Championship titles (2000 and 2012), 15 playoff victories (11–4 record), four AFC North division titles (2003, 2006, 2011, 2012), five AFC Wild Card wins (2000, 2001 , 2003, 2008) and are currently on an active streak of six consecutive playoff appearances. The Ravens organization was formerly led by general manager Ozzie Newsome from 1996 until his retirement following the 2018 season. Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area. The Bills compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays their home games at New Era Field in Orchard Park, New York. The Bills are the only NFL team that plays its home games in the state of New York. The Bills conduct summer training camp at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, New York, an eastern suburb of Rochester.
Houston Texans
The Houston Texans are a professional American football team based in Houston, Texas. The Texans compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. The team plays its home games at NRG Stadium, a stadium it shares with the National League Baseball (MLB) Houston Astros.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans by businessman Lamar Hunt and was a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the team relocated to Kansas City and assumed their current name. The Chiefs joined the NFL as a result of the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team is valued at over $2 billion.
New England Patriots
After finishing the regular season with a 12-4 record, the New England Patriots are once again one of the top seeds in the AFC playoffs. The Patriots have won the AFC East division title for the ninth straight season and are looking to return to the Super Bowl for the third consecutive year.
The Patriots will be led into the playoffs by quarterback Tom Brady, who is coming off another stellar season in which he threw for 4,577 yards and 32 touchdowns. Brady will have a talented group of weapons at his disposal, including wide receivers Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon. On defense, the Patriots will be anchored by linebacker Dont’a Hightower and safety Devin McCourty.
New England will open the playoffs at home against either the Baltimore Ravens or Los Angeles Chargers. If they win that game, they will likely face either the Kansas City Chiefs or Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Game.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Steelers compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) North division. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the oldest franchise in the AFC.
In contrast with their status as perennial also-rans in the pre-merger NFL, where they were mostly a .500 team with one brief period of greatness during the late 1970s, since the 1970 AFL–NFL merger, they have been one of the most successful NFL franchises. The team has won more Super Bowl titles (6) than any other franchise, and hosted more conference championship games (15) than any other team in the NFL.[5][6] The Steelers have won 8 AFC championships and played in 23 AFC Championship Games – tied with the Denver Broncos for second most appearances behind only New England (27).
NFC
The National Football Conference (NFC) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL), the highest professional level of American football in the world. The NFC and its counterpart, the American Football Conference (AFC), currently contain 16 teams each, making up a total of 32 teams in the NFL.
Dallas Cowboys
America’s Team
After a strong regular season, the Dallas Cowboys look to continue their winning ways in the NFC playoffs. The Cowboys finished the regular season with a record of 13-3, which was good enough for the top seed in the NFC. In the playoffs, the Cowboys will have a first-round bye and will host a divisional round game on January 15th.
The Cowboys are one of the most storied franchises in NFL history. They have won five Super Bowls, eight conference championships, and 22 divisional titles. The Cowboys have also appeared in more playoff games than any other team in NFL history. Dallas’ success is due in large part to their storied “America’s Team” image. The Cowboys are one of the most popular and recognizable sports franchises in the world.
The Cowboys will be looking to add to their legacy this postseason. With a talented roster that includes quarterback Dak Prescott, running back Ezekiel Elliott, and wide receiver Dez Bryant, the Cowboys are poised to make a run at the Super Bowl this year.
Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team that compete in the National Football League (NFL). The Rams franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams in the short-lived second American Football League (AFL) before joining the NFL the next year. In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles. The Rams franchise remained in the metro area until 1994, when they moved to Anaheim. The Rams franchise returned to Los Angeles in 2016.
The club won three NFL championships, and is the only one to win championships representing three cities (Cleveland in 1945, Los Angeles in 1951, and St. Louis in 1999). They play their home games at SoFi Stadium here in Inglewood, California.
Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Vikings joined the National Football League (NFL) as an expansion team in 1960, and first took the field for the 1961 season. The team competes in the National Football Conference (NFC) North division.
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The Saints were founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966. The team played its home games at Tulane Stadium through the 1974 NFL season.
San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers are a professional American football team located in the San Francisco Bay Area. They compete in the National Football League as a member of the league’s National Football Conference West division. The team plays its home games at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, which it shares with the Santa Clara Becks. The 49ers joined the NFL in 1946 as a member of the All-America Football Conference and won five AAFC championships before joining the NFL in 1950. The team had accomplished four consecutive NFL Championship victories since 1981, three Super Bowl victories in a span of 10 years between 1981 and 1994, followed by a second championship victory in 2012 and a third one in 2019. With 19 members inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and four more inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, the 49ers have more players enshrined in Canton than any other NFL franchise except for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys.
Wild Card Round
The NFL playoffs are down to the final eight teams. In the AFC, the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Kansas City Chiefs have advanced to the divisional round. In the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, and Los Angeles Rams will compete for a spot in the NFC Championship game.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers finished the regular season 12-4, good enough for the No. 5 seed in the AFC. They’ll travel to Baltimore to take on the No. 4 seed Ravens, who finished the regular season 10-6. The Ravens are coming off a big win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 17, while the Chargers lost to the Broncos.
Dallas Cowboys vs. Seattle Seahawks
The Dallas Cowboys take on the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL Wild Card Round. The winner of this game will advance to the divisional round to take on the Green Bay Packers.
The Cowboys are coming into this game with a much-improved defense. They finished the regular season ranked 9th in yards allowed per game and 8th in points allowed per game. The Seahawks offense will be a tough test for them, but if they can keep Russell Wilson in check, they have a chance to win.
The Seahawks offense struggled at times during the regular season, but they are still a dangerous team. Russell Wilson is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and he has a talented group of weapons to work with. If the Seahawks can get their offense clicking, they will be tough to beat.
This is going to be a close game, but the Seahawks have a slight edge. They are at home and they have more experience in big games. The Cowboys are a good team, but they might not be ready for this stage yet.
Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts
This Sunday, the Houston Texans will take on the Indianapolis Colts in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs. The Texans are coming off a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the last game of the regular season, while the Colts secured a spot in the playoffs with a win over the Tennessee Titans.
The Texans are led by quarterback Deshaun Watson, who has thrown for over 4,000 yards and 26 touchdowns this season. The Colts’ quarterback, Andrew Luck, has had a resurgent season after missing all of 2017 due to injury, throwing for over 4,500 yards and 39 touchdowns.
Both teams have strong defenses; the Texans are ranked 3rd in the NFL in total defense, while the Colts are ranked 5th. The key matchup in this game will be between the two quarterbacks; whoever can make more big plays will likely come out victorious.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns
The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns will face off in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs. The Steelers are the number six seed in the AFC, while the Browns are the number seven seed. This will be a rematch of a regular season game that was won by the Browns, but the Steelers will be favored to win this time around.
