Who Won NFL MVP?

The National Football League’s Most Valuable Player Award is given out every year to the player who is considered to be the most important to his team’s success. This year, there were some clear frontrunners for the award, but in the end, only one player could take home the trophy. Who won NFL MVP for the 2019 season?

Cam Newton

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been named the 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player, it was announced Saturday night. Newton, who is in his fifth NFL season, is the first Panthers player to receive the award. He is also the first quarterback to win the award since Peyton Manning in 2008.

The 26-year-old is the first player in Panthers history to win the award, which was announced during Saturday’s NFL Honors show in San Francisco.

Newton received 48 of 50 votes from a panel of media members who cover the league. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer was second with two votes and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady received the other vote.

The National Football League Most Valuable Player Award (NFL MVP) is an award given by various news and sports organizations to the most valuable player in the American football league during the NFL season. The winner is usually selected by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters at the end of the regular season before the playoffs, but since 2010, it has been announced at the NFL Honors ceremony in February prior to the Super Bowl.

Newton became the first player in NFL history to throw for 30 touchdowns and rush for 10 in the same season (2015), joining Steve Young as the only quarterbacks to do so, and just the third player ever (also Hall of Fame RB Larry Johnson in 2005). He also became only the second player in NFL history, joining Randall Cunningham, to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for 500 or more yards in a season. In Week 14 against Atlanta, Newton had his sixth game with at least three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, which tied Steve Young for second-most all time behind Cunningham (eight games).

Tom Brady

Tom Brady became the first unanimous NFL Most Valuable Player on Saturday, claiming the prestigious award for a third time. The New England Patriots quarterback, who was already the most decorated player in league history, is now the first player to win the award three times. Brady’s other two MVPs came in 2007 and 2010.

The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An ownership group led by Robert Kraft has owned the team since 1994. The team won the Super Bowl in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2016. With six Super Bowl wins, the Patriots have tied the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys for the second most Super Bowl wins by any franchise after the San Francisco 49ers who have won five times. As of 2017, the franchise has generated $4.7 billion in revenue.

On February 5, 2017, Brady led the Patriots to a historic come-from-behind overtime victory in Super Bowl LI. The Patriots trailed the Atlanta Falcons 28–3 late in the third quarter, but Brady helped lead a touchdown drive that ended with a game-tying two-point conversion. The game went to overtime, where Brady led another drive that resulted in a game-winning touchdown run by running back James White. With the victory, Brady helped the Patriots win their fifth Lombardi Trophy in franchise history. He also became the first quarterback ever to win five Super Bowls, and joined defensive end Charles Haley as the only players in NFL history to win five Super Bowls with one team. In addition, Brady was named Super Bowl MVP for a record fourth time

Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers is the NFL’s Most Valuable Player. He was a unanimous choice for the award, becoming the first player to do so since its inception in 1961. Rodgers had an outstanding season, leading the Packers to a 13-3 record and a berth in the NFC Championship Game. He threw for 4,384 yards and 45 touchdowns, with just six interceptions. Rodgers also ran for four touchdowns.

The Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957.

The Packers are the last of the “small town teams” which were common in the NFL during the league’s early days of 1921 and 1922. Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, the franchise traces its lineage to other semi-professional teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. Between 1919 and 1920, the Packers competed against other semi-pro clubs from around Wisconsin and Michigan. They joined the American Professional Football Association, the forerunner of today’s NFL, in 1921. The team posted a 6–1–1 record under head coach Lambeau in its first season of play.

Comeback Player of the Year

On February 4, 2018, at the age of 34, Rodgers was named the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year. This came after he missed nine games due to a broken collarbone. In those games, the Packers went 3-6-1 and missed the playoffs.
