The Beginnings

The National Football League (NFL) was created in 1920, when eleven teams from four states (Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey) met in Canton, Ohio, to discuss the formation of a professional football league. The league began play in 1920 with ten teams.

The first NFL game

The first NFL game was played on October 3, 1920 between the Akron Pros and the Dayton Triangles in Dayton, Ohio. Although it wasn’t called the National Football League yet, this game is considered the birth of professional football in America. The Pros won 14-0.

The first NFL season

The first NFL season was in 1920. There were only 11 teams then, and the league was called the American Professional Football Association. The first game was played on October 3, 1920, between the Dayton Triangles and the Columbus Panhandles. The Triangles won 14-0. The championship game that year was between the Decatur Staleys (now the Chicago Bears) and the Buffalo All-Americans. The Staleys won by a score of 7-6.

The NFL Today

The National Football League is the highest level of professional American football. It was formed by eleven teams in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association, with the league changing its name to the National Football League in 1922. The winner of the Super Bowl receives the Vince Lombardi Trophy, named after NFL coach Vince Lombardi.

The NFL’s impact

The NFL Today is a long-running television program on CBS that serves as the pre-game show for the network’s National Football League (NFL) game coverage. The program features commentary on the latest news around the NFL from its sports commentators, as well as predictions for the day’s games, interviews with players and head coaches, and segments previewing the day’s matchups.

The show was originally broadcast from New York City, but it now originates from CBS’s studios in Los Angeles.

The NFL Today is notable for being one of the first pre-game shows to incorporate extensive live game coverage into its broadcasts. In recent years, the program has also been recognized for its post-game analysis and commentary, provided by a panel of former NFL players and coaches.

In addition to its regular season broadcasts, The NFL Today also provides coverage of the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl. It is currently hosted by James Brown, with guests including Boomer Esiason, Bill Cowher, Phil Simms, and Tony Gonzalez.

Most head coaches begin their careers as assistant coaches, working their way up through the ranks.

The fans

You could make the argument that without fans, there would be no NFL. Fans are the lifeblood of any sport, and the NFL is no different. Fans create the demand for tickets, merchandise, and television rights, which in turn generate billions of dollars in revenue for the league and its 32 franchises. In short, fans are what make the NFL go.
