Who is Zac Taylor?
Zac Taylor is an American football coach who is the current head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Nebraska, and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft. As a head coach, Taylor has led the Bengals to a record of 10-6-1.
His playing career
Before becoming a coach, Zac Taylor played quarterback in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Washington Redskins. He also played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Miami Dolphins. In 2019, he was hired as the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals.
His coaching career
Taylor began his coaching career in 1999 as an offensive assistant at the University of Cincinnati. From 2001 to 2003, he served as the wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator at Northeastern University. In 2004, he returned to Cincinnati as the quarterbacks coach. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2006.
In 2007, Taylor was hired by the Miami Dolphins as their quarterbacks coach. The following year, he was promoted to assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach. He held that position until 2011 when he was hired by the Baltimore Ravens as their quarterbacks coach.
In January 2019, Zac Taylor was hired by the Cincinnati Bengals as their head coach.
Why did he leave the NFL?
Former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor played college football at the University of Nebraska. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft and played for the team for two seasons. He was then traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played for one season. After that, he spent time with the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and Dallas Cowboys before retiring from playing in 2011.
So why did he leave the NFL?
Taylor has said that he realized that he didn’t have what it takes to be a great player in the NFL. “I just wasn’t good enough,” Taylor said of his decision to retire. “I was hanging on by a thread.”
It seems like his heart wasn’t really in it anymore and he decided to focus on coaching instead.

In February 2019, Taylor was hired by the Bengals.
