Who is the NFL MVP this Year?
The National Football League’s Most Valuable Player award is one of the most prestigious individual honors in professional sports. Each year, the NFL’s 32 team owners, general managers, and head coaches vote to determine the winner.
Tom Brady
The National Football League Most Valuable Player Award (NFL MVP) is an award given by various media outlets to the most valuable player in the National Football League (NFL). The winner receives the MauricePodoloff Trophy, which is named after the first commissioner of the NBA, Maurice Podoloff. Since 1957, the award has been presented by the NFL. Prior to that, several media outlets presented their own version of an NFL MVP award.
In most NFL seasons, there are many players who could plausibly be chosen as MVP. For this reason, media outlets often disagree about who should be given the award. This can make choosing an MVP difficult for both voters and fans. In some cases, there is so much disagreement that two players end up sharing the award.
This year, Tom Brady is a strong candidate for NFL MVP. He has led the New England Patriots to an 8-0 record, and they are currently the only undefeated team in the NFL. Brady has thrown for 2, 802 yards and 20 touchdowns so far this season. He has also been efficient, completing nearly 70% of his passes. Brady is one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, and he is playing at a high level even at age 42.
There are other strong candidates for this year’s award as well. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is another leading contender. Brees has thrown for 2,752 yards and 27 touchdowns so far this season. He is also completing nearly 75% of his passes. Like Brady, Brees is a future Hall of Famer who is still playing at a high level.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is another leading candidate for this year’s award. Mahomes has thrown for 2, 625 yards and 24 touchdowns so far this season. He is also completing nearly 68% of his passes. Mahomes is in his second year in the NFL, and he looks like he could be one of the best quarterbacks in league history.
These are just three of the leading candidates for this year’s award. There are many other players who could plausibly be chosen as MVP as well. It will be interesting to see how voters ultimately decide to cast their ballots when it comes time to choose this year’s winner
Russell Wilson
As the NFL season comes to a close, there is no clear-cut favorite for MVP. A case could be made for a number of players, but Russell Wilson has emerged as the front-runner in recent weeks.
Wilson has put up video game-like numbers this season, leading the Seahawks to a 12-4 record and the #1 seed in the NFC. He has thrown for 4,110 yards and 34 touchdowns, while also rushing for 586 yards and 3 touchdowns. His overall QBR is a league-best 92.7.
While Wilson’s individual numbers are impressive, it is his leadership that has set him apart this season. He has willed his team to victory on several occasions, including a wild come-from-behind win against the Eagles in Week 12. In that game, he was dealing with a stomach bug that caused him to vomit on the sidelines during the game. Most players would have taken themselves out of the game in that situation, but Wilson gutted it out and led his team to victory.
That type of leadership is what sets Wilson apart from other contenders for MVP and it should be enough to earn him the award this season.
Lamar Jackson
As the 2019 NFL regular season comes to a close, the MVP race is heating up. With so many great performances this year, it’s difficult to narrow the field down to just one player. However, there is one clear front-runner: Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.
Jackson has been nothing short of spectacular this year. He has thrown for over 3,000 yards and 36 touchdowns, while also rushing for over 1,200 yards and 7 touchdowns. He has led the Ravens to a 12-2 record, and they are currently the #1 seed in the AFC.
What makes Jackson’s season even more impressive is that he has done it all without one of his top receivers, John Brown. Brown missed several games early in the season with an injury, and Jackson was still able to put up big numbers.
There are a few other players who could make a case for MVP, such as Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks and Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saints. However, Jackson is head and shoulders above the rest, and he is deserving of being named NFL MVP for 2019.
Drew Brees
Drew Brees is an American football quarterback who plays in the National Football League (NFL). He is currently a member of the New Orleans Saints, and has been selected to eleven Pro Bowls. He was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2010 and 2016. In 2017, he broke the NFL record for single-season passing yards.
Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott has been the favorite for the NFL MVP this year. He has been playing amazing this season and has led the Dallas Cowboys to an 11-1 record. If the Cowboys win the Super Bowl, Dak will most likely be crowned MVP.
