Introduction

The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the four major professional sports leagues in North America, and the highest professional level of American football in the world.

The NFL Season

The NFL season is the most wonderful time of the year. It kicks off on September 5th and ends on February 3rd. Football fans all over the world rejoice as they can finally watch their favorite teams compete against each other. The NFL season is a time to come together and root for your team.

Pre-Season

Pre-season began on August 1st, with the Hall of Fame Game between the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens. The regular season will begin on September 6th, with the Atlanta Falcons playing against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Regular Season

The National Football League regular season begins on the weekend following the Labor Day holiday (i.e., the weekend after September 1). Prior to 1970, the regular season started as late as September 21. From 1970 to 1977, the regular season started no later than September 20 and lasted no more than twenty weeks. Since 1978, when NFL schedule expand to a sixteen-game season, the regular season has begun no earlier than September 7 and lasted no more seventeen weeks (excluding strike-shortened seasons in 1982 and 1987). In 2014, there was an oddity with one team, the Miami Dolphins, having their bye week in week 1; this was because they had played a preseason game in Week 3 of that year in England as part of the International Series.

The NFL playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the end of the regular season to determine the NFL champion. Six teams from each of the league’s two conferences qualify for the playoffs. Seedings are used to determine which teams play which other teams in AFC and NFC Wild Card games and AFC and NFC Divisional playoff games. The two conference champions will then face each other in the final game of the postseason, called the Super Bowl.

Post-Season

After the regular season, six teams from each conference (NFC and AFC) advance to the playoffs, a single-elimination tournament culminating in the Super Bowl, currently scheduled for February 2, 2020. seeded according to their regular-season record. In the first round, dubbed the wild-card playoffs or wild-card weekend, the third-seeded division winner hosts the sixth seed wild card, and the fourth seed hosts the fifth. The 1 and 2 seeds from each conference then receive a bye in the first round. In the second round, dubbed the divisional playoffs,
the number 1 seed hosts the worst surviving seed from the first round (seed 4, 5 or 6), while
the number 2 seed will play against the other team (seed 3). The two surviving teams from each conference’s divisional playoff games then meet in Conference Championships. Finally, in early February 2020, The NFC and AFC champions play each other in Miami to decide who will be crowned NFL champion for that year END

Conclusion

The answer to this question largely depends on when the Super Bowl is taking place. If the Super Bowl is scheduled for February, then the NFL season will most likely start sometime in September. However, if the Super Bowl is taking place in January, then the NFL season will start a few weeks earlier in order to accommodate the game. The NFL typically releases its official schedule for the upcoming season in April or May.
