Who’s Out of the NFL Playoffs?

The NFL playoffs are in full swing, and there are plenty of teams still vying for a spot in the Super Bowl. But which teams are out of the running? Check out our latest blog post to find out!

AFC

The Buffalo Bills and the Houston Texans have been eliminated from the AFC playoffs. The Bills lost to the Jaguars, while the Texans lost to the Patriots.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The Ravens were established in 1996, when Art Modell, who was then the owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced plans to relocate the franchise to Baltimore. As part of a settlement between Modell and the city of Cleveland, the Ravens agreed to take over the history and records of the Browns, who had dominated the AFC North since their establishment in 1946; while the Browns were revived as an expansion team in 1999.

The Ravens have qualified for the NFL playoffs eleven times since 2000, with two Super Bowl victories (Super Bowl XXXV and Super Bowl XLVII), two AFC Championship titles (2000 and 2012), 15 playoff victories, four AFC North division titles (2003, 2006, 2011, 2018), and are currently the only team in NFL history to hold a perfect record in multiple playoff games (4–0). The Ravens organization has also won two other major professional sports championships: an MLB World Series title in 1966 with the Baltimore Orioles and a Women’s World Cup title with Brazil’s national soccer team as its majority shareholder.

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are currently out of the NFL playoffs. The team’s last playoff game was in the 2016 season, where they lost to the New England Patriots 34-16.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are out of the NFL playoffs. They lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are out of the NFL playoffs.

NFC

The NFC playoff race is down to four teams: the Cowboys, Packers, Seahawks, and Panthers. The Cowboys and Packers are both division leaders, while the Seahawks and Panthers are both wild card teams. Who’s out of the NFL playoffs?

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are a professional American football team based in Chicago, Illinois. The Bears compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. The Bears have won nine NFL Championships, including one Super Bowl, and hold the NFL record for the most enshrinements in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the most retired jersey numbers. They have also recorded more victories than any other NFL franchise.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Cowboys compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) East division. They are headquartered in Frisco, Texas, and play their home games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which opened for the 2009 season. The stadium took the place of Texas Stadium, which served as the Cowboys’ home through the 2008 season.

The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. The team’s national following might best be represented by its NFL record of consecutive sell-outs. The Cowboys played 160 consecutive sold-out regular and post-season games at their then-current home, Texas Stadium, a streak that spanned from 1990 to 2002 (a span of 12 years). This has also corresponded to eight NFC championships (1971–72, 1977, 1992–95), most in the NFC. The Cowboys have made it to ten Super Bowls, tying them with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos for second most Super Bowl appearances in NFL history behind only the New England Patriots’ eleven appearances.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are a professional American football franchise based in Seattle, Washington. The Seahawks compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. They joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team, along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Seahawks are owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and are currently coached by Pete Carroll. Since 2002, the Seahawks have played their home games at CenturyLink Field (formerly Qwest Field), located south of downtown Seattle. The Seahawks previously played home games in the Kingdome (1976–1999) and Husky Stadium (1994, 2000–2001).

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are out of the NFL playoffs. They were defeated by the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card round.
