How the NFL Honors Veterans
The National Football League has a long history of supporting the military and veterans. The NFL has donated millions of dollars to various veteran organizations and has also hosted numerous events to honor veterans. In addition, the NFL has also partnered with the USO to support military families.
The NFL and Veterans Affairs Partnership
The NFL and Veterans Affairs Partnership honors veterans through a variety of initiatives, including the Salute to Service campaign, which raises awareness and funds for programs that support veterans. The NFL also partners with the USO to provide care packages, tickets, and other events for service members and their families.
The Salute to Service Campaign
The National Football League’s annual Salute to Service campaign recognizes and honors the service of our nation’s veterans,Active Duty service members and their families. The League works with its core partners USAA, Nvidia and Nike to ensure that military members and their families know how much we appreciate their sacrifices.
During the month of November, NFL players will wear special Salute to Service gear including gloves, cleats and camouflage apparel. The campaign culminates on Veterans Day with NFL teams across the country hosting Salute to Service games and activities in their communities.

In addition to its financial support, the foundation also works to raise awareness of the issues facing veterans and active duty military personnel through its partnership with the USO. The NFL has also created a number of programs specifically designed to support veterans, including the Salute to Service award, which is given to a player or coach who demonstrates an exemplary commitment to serving the military community.
The Wounded Warrior Project
The Wounded Warrior Project is a national non-profit organization that provides support to post-9/11 service members and their families. Their mission is to “honor and empower Wounded Warriors” by providing them with programs and services that help them recover from their injuries and adjust to their new lives.
The NFL has been a major supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project since 2007, when they first began working together. Since then, the NFL has donated more than $35 million to the WWP, making them one of the organization’s biggest donors.
In addition to monetary donations, the NFL also supports the WWP through public service announcements, player appearances, and fundraising events. For example, every year during Memorial Day weekend, the NFL airs a PSA that features wounded veterans talking about how much the WWP has helped them. And every November, during Veterans Day weekend, the NFL honors veterans with on-field ceremonies and special events at games across the country.
The Bob Woodruff Foundation
Since its inception in 2006, the Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) has invested more than $120 million to help injured service members, veterans and their families thrive.
The foundation was established by award-winning journalist and ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff and his family after he was nearly killed by a roadside bomb while embedded with U.S. troops in Iraq.
Through a comprehensive approach, BWF addresses the challenges faced by our nation’s heroes and their families by funding programs that provide:
-Education and job opportunities
-Mental and physical health care
-A supportive community
In addition to direct grants to more than 1,500 nonprofit organizations nationwide, the foundation also provides support through pro bono partnerships, capacity building programs and national public awareness campaigns.
