Who Did the Jets Pick in the NFL Draft?
The New York Jets selected Mekhi Becton with the eleventh pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Round 1
With the 6th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected wide receiver, Ja’Marr Chase out of LSU.
Pick #11: Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville
With the 11th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Mekhi Becton, an offensive tackle out of Louisville.
Becton, who is 6’7″ and 364 pounds, is the biggest player in this year’s draft class. He ran a 5.10-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, which was the fastest time for an offensive lineman since Dontari Poe in 2012.
Becton will be tasked with protecting quarterback Sam Darnold and opening up holes for running back Le’Veon Bell.
Pick #48: Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor
With their second pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Baylor wide receiver Denzel Mims.
Mims is a 6’3″, 207-pound receiver who ran a 4.38 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. He was a two-time first-team All-Big 12 selection and finished his collegiate career with 176 catches for 2,636 yards and 28 touchdowns. As a senior in 2019, he had 66 receptions for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Mims joins a Jets receiving corps that includes Jamison Crowder, Robby Anderson, and Quincy Enunwa. The Jets are hoping that Mims can be a big-play threat in the passing game and help take some pressure off of second-year quarterback Sam Darnold.
Round 2
The Jets went with LSU cornerback Greedy Williams with the 48th overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Pick #59: Ashtyn Davis, S, California
With the 59th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Ashtyn Davis, a safety out of California.
Davis is a three-time All-Pac-12 selection and was a Consensus All-American in 2019. He was also a team captain for the Golden Bears. Davis finished his collegiate career with 201 tackles, eight interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
The Jets hope that Davis can help to shore up a secondary that was often injured and struggled last season.
Pick #68: Jabari Zuniga, EDGE, Florida
With the 68th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Jabari Zuniga, EDGE out of the University of Florida.
A native of Apopka, FL, Zuniga was a 3-star recruit coming out of high school. He chose to stay in-state to play for the Gators, and was a key piece of their defense for 4 years. In his senior year, he racked up 40 tackles (15.5 for loss), 8 sacks, and 1 interception, which he returned for a touchdown. He was named 2nd team All-SEC for his efforts.
At 6’3″ and 264 lbs, Zuniga has good size for an edge rusher. He’s also a very athletic player, with a 4.64 40-yard dash time and a 38″ vertical jump. He’s been training with NFL legend Michael Strahan to try and improve his pass rushing technique.
The Jets are hoping that Zuniga can come in and immediately contribute as a pass rusher. With new head coach Adam Gase bringing in his own defensive coordinator ( Gregg Williams), the Jets are switching to a 3-4 defensive scheme. Zuniga will be lining up as an outside linebacker/edge rusher in that scheme.
Round 3
The New York Jets selected wide receiver Denzel Mims out of Baylor with the No. 59 overall pick in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Pick #79: Cameron Clark, OT, Charlotte
The Jets continued to address their offensive line in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, selecting OT Cameron Clark out of Charlotte with the 79th overall pick.
Clark (6’4″, 311 lbs) is a four-year starter who was a first-team All-Conference USA selection as a senior. He’s considered a good athlete for his size, and he has the potential to develop into a quality starter at either tackle spot.
The Jets have now drafted three offensive linemen in the first three rounds of this year’s draft, and they appear intent on addressing one of their biggest weakness from last season. It remains to be seen how soon Clark will be able to contribute, but he has the potential to develop into a solid player down the road.
Pick #91: La’Mical Perine, RB, Florida
With the 91st pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected RB La’Mical Perine out of Florida.
Perine is a big back at 5’11” and 226 pounds. He’s a good runner between the tackles and has the ability to break tackles and pick up yards after contact. He also has good vision and can find holes to run through. Perine isn’t the fastest back, but he has good quickness and can make defenders miss in the open field.
While Perine is a good runner, he’s not much of a receiver out of the backfield. He had just 24 catches for 206 yards in his four years at Florida. He’ll need to improve his receiving skills if he wants to see significant playing time in the NFL.
The Jets already have Le’Veon Bell as their starting running back, so Perine will likely be used as a backup and change-of-pace option early in his career. He could eventually become the Jets’ starter if he develops well, but he’s not likely to see much playing time as a rookie.
Round 4
The New York Jets have selected Michael Carter in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. The running back from UNC was picked with the 107th overall pick.
Pick #120: James Morgan, QB, FIU
Quarterback James Morgan was selected by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Morgan, 6’4″ and 229 pounds, is originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin. He played his collegiate football at Florida International University, where he was a two-year starter.
In his senior season, Morgan threw for 3,095 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He completed 62 percent of his passes and had a passer rating of 143.2.
Pick #125: Bryce Hall, CB, Virginia
The New York Jets selected Bryce Hall with the 125th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Hall was a four-year starter at Virginia, compiling eight interceptions and 28 passes defended in his career. He was a first-team All-American in 2018 and a second-team All-American in 2019.
At 6’1″ and 200 pounds, Hall has good size for a corner and is considered a good tackler. He needs to improve his ball skills, as he only had two interceptions in 2019, but he has the potential to be a solid starter in the NFL.
Round 5
The New York Jets selected Jabari Zuniga, an edge rusher from Florida, with the 159th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Pick #158: Braden Mann, P, Texas A&M
The Jets went with a bit of a surprise pick in the fifth round, selecting Braden Mann, a punter out of Texas A&M.
Mann was a four-year starter for the Aggies, and was named a first-team All-American in 2018 and 2019. He set an NCAA record for single-season punt average in 2018, with a mark of 51.0 yards per punt.
The Jets have had some issues at punter in recent years, so they hope that Mann can come in and provide some stability at the position.
Pick #166: Flynn Nagel, WR, Northwestern
The Jets picked Flynn Nagel in the 5th round of the NFL Draft. Nagel is a wide receiver from Northwestern.
Round 6
The New York Jets have selected wide receiver Denzel Mims out of Baylor with the No. 59 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Pick #196: Tanner Muse, LB, Clemson
With the 196th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Tanner Muse, a linebacker out of Clemson.
Muse was a three-year starter for the Tigers, totaling 222 tackles, 9.5 sacks, and three interceptions over his college career. He was a key member of Clemson’s national championship team in 2018, and was named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press in 2019.
Muse will provide depth at linebacker for the Jets, and could see time on special teams as a rookie.
Pick #205: Quintez Cephus, WR, Wisconsin
The Jets selected wide receiver Quintez Cephus with the 205th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The 6’1”, 207-pound Cephus was a two-year starter at Wisconsin, catching 116 passes for 1,949 yards and 17 touchdowns in that span. He was a Second Team All-Big Ten selection as a senior in 2019, when he caught 59 passes for 901 yards and seven touchdowns.
Round 7
With the 207th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Jets have selected Bryce Hall, CB, from the University of Virginia.
Pick #242: Trevon Wesco, TE, West Virginia
In the seventh round of the 2019 NFL draft, the New York Jets selected Trevon Wesco, a tight end from West Virginia.
Wesco is 6’4″ and 275 pounds, and he ran a 4.81-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. He caught 32 passes for 409 yards and four touchdowns in his senior season at West Virginia.
