1. Saquon Barkley, New York Giants
Barkley, who was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, has taken the league by storm and quickly become one of its most popular players. Theformer Penn State star running back has rushed for 1,155 yards and 11 touchdowns while also catching 73 passes for 638 yards and four touchdowns. He is a leading candidate for Offensive Rookie of the Year and has helped the Giants to a 4-8 record.
2. Deandre Hopkins, Houston Texans
The Houston Texans wide receiver has skyrocketed up the charts this year. His Texans jersey is the second best selling NFL jersey. Deandre Hopkins is coming off of a season where he caught 96 passes for 1,378 yards and 13 touchdowns. Those numbers were good enough to earn him a spot on the First-Team All-Pro. He has also been named to the Pro Bowl in three of his five seasons in the NFL.
3. Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers
In just eight starts, Jimmy Garoppolo became a fan favorite in San Francisco, and the 49ers rewarded him with a five-year, $137.5 million contract in February. That made him the NFL’s highest-paid player at the time. It also helped his jersey become one of the league’s best sellers.
4. Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns
As the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft,Mayfield’sjersey was inevitable to be one of the best selling. The young quarterback’s charismatic personality and on-field success has made him a fan favorite in Cleveland and around the NFL. His #6 jersey is one of the most popular in Browns’ history and is sure to continue to be a best seller in 2019 and beyond.
5. Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl LII victory was one of the most improbable in NFL history. Led by back-up quarterback Nick Foles, the Eagles defeated the New England Patriots, 41-33, in a game that featured the highest scoring output by both teams in Super Bowl history. Foles, who took over for an injured Carson Wentz midway through the season, was named Super Bowl MVP after completing 28 of 43 passes for 373 yards and three touchdowns. Following the game, Foles’ #9 jersey became the fifth best selling jersey on NFLShop.com.
6. Khalil Mack, Chicago Bears
Khalil Mack is a linebacker for the Chicago Bears. He was drafted by the Raiders fifth overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Buffalo. In his first season with the Bears, Mack recorded 12.5 sacks, forced six fumbles, and intercepted one pass, earning him first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. He was also named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
7. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
According to NFL.com, the Green Bay Packers quarterback’s jersey was the seventh best seller this season. Despite only appearing in seven games due to injury, Rodgers still managed to rack up 1,675 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and six interceptions for a 97.2 passer rating.
8. Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago Bears
The young quarterback out of North Carolina was selected with the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He started 12 games as a rookie, completing 59.4 percent of his passes for 2,193 yards and seven touchdowns. Trubisky also ran for 248 yards and two touchdowns. The Bears finished the season with a 5-11 record.
9. Tom Brady, New England Patriots
Tom Brady is not only one of the most popular NFL players, but he’s also one of the most popular athletes in the world. So it’s no surprise that his jersey is one of the best selling in the NFL. The five-time Super Bowl champion has a loyal following, and his fans love to show their support by purchasing his jersey.
The Five Worst Selling Jerseys of 2018
There were some major flops in jersey sales this year. Whether it was due to poor play on the field or bland designs, these jerseys just didn’t resonate with fans. Here are the five jerseys that sold the worst in 2018.
1. Josh Rosen, Arizona Cardinals
Josh Rosen was the 10th overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, but he didn’t make this list of best-selling jerseys. In fact, he’s at the bottom of the list. Last season was rough for Rosen and the Cardinals, as they went 3-13 and missed the playoffs. Arizona averaged just 16.6 points per game, second worst in the NFL.
2. Sam Darnold, New York Jets
Despite being the third overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Sam Darnold’s jersey sales have been rather dismal. The young quarterback out of USC has only sold 2,595 jerseys, which ranks him as the 25th best selling player in the NFL.
3. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen was the 7th overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, and the Bills have high hopes that he will be their franchise quarterback for years to come. However, his rookie season was far from impressive, as he completed just 52.8% of his passes for 2,074 yards, 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also ran for 631 yards and 8 touchdowns, but his 3.7 yards per attempt average was among the lowest in the league.
Unsurprisingly, Josh Allen’s jersey was not a popular purchase in 2018. He ranked third on this list of the worst selling jerseys, behind only Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston and Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.
4. Eli Manning, New York Giants
Eli Manning has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL over the last 15 years. He has won two Super Bowls and is a five-time Pro Bowler. Despite all of his success, Manning has not had a great year in 2018. The Giants have struggled mightily, and Manning’s play has been a big reason why.
Manning’s jersey was the fourth worst selling jersey in 2018. This is a big drop from 2017, when his jersey was the ninth best selling jersey in the NFL.
5. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This should come as no surprise. The Jets released Fitzpatrick after a disastrous 2016 season, and he landed with the Bucs on a one-year, $3 million deal. He proceeded to have the best season of his career, topping 4,000 passing yards for the third time and setting a career high with 30 touchdown passes. The 36-year-old journeyman is now a free agent again, but he won’t be back in Tampa.
4. DeShone Kizer, Cleveland Browns
The Browns were so bad last season that they had two players in the top five on this list. Kizer was atrocious as a rookie, completing just 53.6 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. He was so bad that the Browns benched him in favor of Cody Kessler and Kevin Hogan at various points during the season. Kizer is still just 22 years old, so he could develop into a good quarterback in time. But it’s clear that he’s not ready to be a starter in the NFL right now.
3. Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars
Bortles has been one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL over the last three seasons, but he was able to salvage his 2017 campaign with a strong showing in the playoffs. He threw for just 3,687 yards with 21 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions during the regular season, but he stepped up his game in the postseason and helped lead the Jaguars to the AFC Championship Game. Bortles is due to make $19 million in 2018, but it’s possible that the Jaguars will move on from him this offseason.
2. Mitch Trubisky, Chicago Bears
Trubisky was taken with the No. 2 overall pick in last year’s draft, but he struggled mightily as a rookie starter for the Bears. He completed just 59 percent of his passes for 2,193 yards with seven touchdown passes and seven interceptions while also running for 248 yards and two scores. Trubisky showed some flashes of potential at times last season, but he still has a long way to go before he lives up to expectations as a franchise quarterback
