How to Shrink a Baseball Cap

Learn how to shrink a baseball cap using this easy guide. You’ll need a few supplies, but the process is simple and only takes a few minutes.

Materials

In order to shrink a baseball cap, you will need the following materials: a baseball cap that is too large, a basin or sink, hot water, a towel, and clothespins. You will also need access to a stovetop.

Baseball cap

A baseball cap is a type of soft cap with a rounded crown and a stiff bill projecting in front. The front of the cap typically contains designs or logos of sports teams (namely baseball teams, or names of relevant companies, when used as promotional merchandise).

Bowl of hot water

You’ll need a bowl of hot water large enough to submerge your baseball cap. You can use a sink, but be careful not to splash hot water on yourself. If you have a steamer attachment for your iron, you can also use that.

Towel

You’ll need a couple things before you start:
-A medium-sized bath towel
-A baseball cap that’s a little too big for your head

First, wet the towel and wring it out so it’s damp. Then, put the baseball cap on your head and position the towel so that it’s wrapped around the crown of the hat, with the edges of the towel hanging down.

Method

There are a few different ways that you can shrink a baseball cap. The most common way is to wash it in hot water. You can also shrink it by putting it in the dryer on high heat. If you don’t want to shrink the entire cap, you can just shrink the bill. We’ll go over all of these methods in detail so that you can choose the best one for you.

Fill a bowl with hot water and place the baseball cap in it

For this method, you will need a bowl that is big enough to fit your baseball cap, hot water, and laundry detergent. Start by filling the bowl with hot water and adding a few drops of laundry detergent. Stir the water around to make sure that the detergent is dissolved. Then, place your baseball cap in the water and let it soak for about 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes, take the baseball cap out of the bowl and rinse it off with cold water. Once it is rinsed, place it on your head and adjust it to fit snugly. Then, take a hairdryer and set it to the “hot” setting. Hold the hairdryer about 6 inches away from your baseball cap and blast it with hot air for about 30 seconds. This will help to shrink the fabric of your baseball cap.

Soak the baseball cap in the hot water for 3-5 minutes

This will help to loosen the fibers of the fabric and make it easier to shrink. Be sure to use hot water, not boiling water, as this can damage the cap.

Remove the baseball cap from the water and place it on a towel

After about 10 minutes, remove the baseball cap from the water and place it on a towel. Using your hands, begin to shape the crown and bill of the cap. Once you have achieved the desired look, allow the baseball cap to air dry or further shape it by using a hairdryer on a low setting.

Use your hands to reshape the baseball cap

Start by putting the baseball cap on your head. With both hands, grab the bill of the cap and pull it down so it’s tight against your forehead. Next, take the cap off your head and place it bill side down on a flat surface like a table. Use your hands to gently push down on the sides of the hat, working your way around the entire circumference until the hat is about an inch smaller than its original size. Finally, put the baseball cap back on your head and adjust it to fit snugly.

Allow the baseball cap to dry

Once you have removed the sweatband, allow the baseball cap to dry completely. If it is only slightly damp, you can set it on a towel in a sunny spot or near a heating vent to speed up the drying process. If it is soaked, wring it out gently, being careful not to distort the shape of the crown, and then set it out to dry as described above.
