Who Won The Baseball World Series?

The teams

The MLB World Series is the annual championship series of Major League Baseball (MLB). This best-of-seven playoff determines the league champion of MLB. The winning team is awarded the Commissioner’s Trophy.

The American League

The American League of Major League Baseball (MLB) is one of two leagues that make up MLB. It was founded in 1901, and its current champion is the Houston Astros. The American League consists of 15 teams, divided into three divisions: the East, Central, and West.

The National League

The National League (NL) is one of two leagues that make up Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1876 with eight teams, the NL is made up of three divisions: East, West and Central.

The East Division includes the Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals.

The West Division features the Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants.

The Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates make up the Central Division.

The NL Champion is determined by a best-of-seven playoff series at the end of the MLB regular season. The winner of the NL Championship Series (NLCS) advances to the World Series to take on the champion of the American League (AL).

The games

The Boston Red Sox are the 2018 World Series Champions. They defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. This is the first time the Red Sox have won the World Series since 2013.

Game one

The Boston Red Sox won game one of the 2018 World Series by a score of 8-4. The game was played at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and was attended by a sellout crowd of 38,454.

Game two

The Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4 in Game 2 of the World Series on Wednesday night to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The Sox got off to a hot start, scoring three runs in the first inning. They added two more in the second and three in the third to take an 8-1 lead. The Dodgers scored three runs in the fourth inning, but they couldn’t muster any more offense and ultimately fell short.

Red Sox starting pitcher David Price turned in a strong performance, pitching seven innings and giving up just four runs (three earned) on six hits. He also struck out five and didn’t walk any batters. Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu wasn’t as effective, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits in just three innings of work.

With the win, the Red Sox have now taken a 2-0 lead in the World Series for the first time since 2007, when they went on to sweep the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers, meanwhile, haven’t won a World Series game since 1988.

Game three

Boston Red Sox 8, Los Angeles Dodgers 1

The Dodgers couldn’t muster much offense against Chris Sale, and they fell behind early in this one. Joc Pederson hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, but that was all the Dodgers could muster against Sale.

The Red Sox, meanwhile, scored in each of the first five innings. They got started with a three-run first inning that was highlighted by Steve Pearce’s two-run homer. Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts each had RBI singles in the second and third innings, respectively, and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a solo homer in the fifth.

Eduardo Rodriguez pitched seven innings of one-run ball for the Red Sox to pick up the win. Rich Hill took the loss for the Dodgers after allowing six runs (five earned) in four innings

The aftermath

The Boston Red Sox have won the 2018 World Series, their fourth championship in the last 15 years. The Sox finished the regular season with a 108-54 record, the best in baseball. They then went 11-3 in the postseason, beating the Yankees in the ALDS, the Astros in the ALCS, and the Dodgers in the World Series.

The MVP

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the World Series is an annual award given to the player deemed to be the most important to his team’s success during the championship series. The winner is selected by a vote of baseball writers and broadcasters.

The celebration

While most of the country went back to their regularly scheduled programming, some places did not. In Boston, for example, the partying continued into the early morning hours. Fans poured into the streets, set off fireworks, and climbed on top of buses and cars. The city’s police department reported that they had made more than 50 arrests by 3 a.m., mostly for disorderly conduct.
