The Dallas-Fort Worth Spurs were a Minor League Baseball team that played in the Texas League from 1972 to 1974. They were located in Arlington, Texas, and played their home games at Turnpike Stadium. The team was affiliated with the San Francisco Giants and was owned by Peter O’Malley, the president and CEO of the Dodgers.
The Spurs were one of four teams to be added to the Texas League for the 1972 season as part of a reorganization of Minor League Baseball. The other three teams were the Amarillo Giants, El Paso Sun Kings, and San Antonio Brewers. The Spurs finished the 1972 season with a 77–69 record, good for second place in the Western Division behind the Midland Cubs.
In 1973, the Spurs began the season with an 11–2 record, but they struggled thereafter and finished the season with a 56–84 record. Outfielder Duane Kuiper was named the league’s Most Valuable Player after hitting .316 with 16 home runs and 84 RBIs.
The 1974 season was identical to 1973 for the Spurs, as they again finished last in their division with a 56–84 record. This would prove to be their final season in existence, as they ceased operations after 1974 along with two other teams in the Texas League, the Midland Cubs and Amarillo Giants.
