The Louisiana State University (LSU) baseball team represents Louisiana State University in NCAA Division I college baseball. The Tigers compete in the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). They are currently coached by Paul Mainieri and play their home games at Alex Box Stadium,Skip Bertman Field in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
In 2009, LSU became only the second team in NCAA history to reach the College World Series Finals in back-to-back seasons. The Tigers lost to Texas in 2009 and 2010. They made it back to Omaha a third consecutive year in 2011 and won it all, defeating Conference foe Florida two games to one. LSU repeated as National Champions in 2013, defeating conference foe Mississippi State two games to none.
The four seasons preceding Mainieri’s hire were marked by inconsistency andmediocrity, with the team finishing no better than tied for fifth placein the SEC West and never advancing past the SEC tournament’s semifinalround. Under Mainieri, however, the Tigers have been one of the mostsuccessful programs in all of college baseball. In 2007, LSU won itsfifth SEC championship under Mainieri and advanced to the NCAAsuperregionals for a school record ninth time since 1987. LSU also hostedsix home superregionals before finally clinching a CWS berth with avictory over UC Irvine on June 10, 2007.
