In 1909, Venezuelan immigrants who had been living in Cuba founded the first professional baseball team in Venezuela, called the Cervecería Caracas. Baseball quickly became popular among Venezuelans, and by the 1920s there were several professional teams in operation.

The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (in Spanish: Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional) is the highest level baseball competition in Venezuela. The league was created in 1945 with six franchises and has expanded to ten teams. The regular season runs from October through December, followed by a two-round playoff system in January.

Major League Baseball

Major League Baseball (MLB) is a professional baseball organization, the oldest of the four major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. A total of 30 teams play in the National League (NL) and American League (AL), with 15 teams in each league. The AL and NL are separate legal entities from MLB. MLB, itself, is not a sport organization.
