How did your team do this season?
This season has been full of surprises for baseball fans. For example, the Baltimore Orioles are in the playoffs for the first time since 1997. A lot can change in two decades, so let’s take a look at how each team did this season.
American League
The American League of Major League Baseball (MLB) is one of two leagues that make up the sport. It was founded in 1901 as the result of the combination of several smaller leagues. Today, it is made up of 15 teams, organized into three divisions: the East, the Central, and the West.
In any given season, each team in the American League plays 162 games. At the end of the regular season, the team with the best record in each division automatically qualifies for the playoffs. The two teams with the next best records in each league also qualify for a playoff spot, regardless of division. These are known as “wild card” teams.
In the first round of the playoffs, known as the American League Division Series (ALDS), the three division winners and wild card team are matched up against each other in a best-of-five game series. The winner of each series moves on to the next round, called the American League Championship Series (ALCS). The two remaining teams face off in a best-of-seven game series, with the winner becoming the American League champion and advancing to play in baseball’s biggest event: The World Series.
National League
It’s that time of year again, when baseball fans all over the country start asking the question: who’s in the playoffs? The National League is always a tough competition, with so many good teams vying for a spot in the postseason. This year is no different, with a number of teams having strong seasons.
So who’s in the playoffs? Baseball fans have been weighing in on this question, and there seems to be general agreement on a few teams. The Los Angeles Dodgers are almost certainly going to be in the playoffs, as they have had an incredible season and are currently leading the NL West by a wide margin. The Chicago Cubs are also looking like a lock for the playoffs, as they are currently leading the NL Central.
The NL East is a little more up in the air, but the Washington Nationals seem to be the most likely team to come out on top. The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies are both having strong seasons and could also make a run for the division title. In terms of wild card spots, the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies are both looking like strong contenders.
So there you have it: baseball fans’ predictions for who’s in the playoffs in the National League. It should be an exciting end to the season!
Who are the favorites to win the World Series?
It’s that time of year again! The MLB playoffs are just around the corner and baseball fans everywhere are eagerly waiting to see who will come out on top. There are a lot of strong contenders this year, but who are the favorites to win it all?
American League
The American League has been dominated in recent years by the Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros, who have won four championships apiece since 2004. The Los Angeles Dodgers have also been a force to be reckoned with, winning the National League title six times since 2008. But this year, there are a number of teams that could take home the Commissioner’s Trophy.
The Minnesota Twins finished the regular season with an impressive 101-61 record, earning them the AL Central title. They’ll be up against the Wild Card winners, either the Oakland Athletics or the Tampa Bay Rays. The A’s finished 97-65, while the Rays went 96-66.
In the AL East, it’s once again the Yankees and Red Sox fighting for supremacy. The Yankees claimed their division with a 103-59 record, while the Red Sox had to settle for a Wild Card spot with a still-impressive 100-62 record. The Yankees will take on their division rivals, the Baltimore Orioles, in the ALDS.
The Astros clinched their division early and will face either the Cleveland Indians or the New York Yankees in their series. The Indians had a great season as well, finishing with a 97-65 record to claim their spot in the ALDS.
Whoever comes out on top in these battles will have earned their place in the ALCS, where they’ll face off against each other for a chance to go to the World Series.
