We all know that some NBA players have had very long careers. But who was the oldest player in the league?
We did some research and found out that the oldest player in the NBA was actually Robert Parish, who played until he was 43 years old!
That’s amazing! We hope that some of today’s players can have careers that long.

Robert Parish was born on December 7, 1953, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Parish played college basketball at Centenary College of Louisiana, where he was a two-time All-American. He was drafted in the first round of the 1976 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors.

He played a record 1,611 regular season games in his 21-year NBA career, and ranks seventh all-time in career field goals made (13,409). He is also the NBA’s all-time leader in career defensive rebounds (10,117).Upon his retirement in 1997, Parish was ranked as the NBA’s all-time leader in offensive rebounds (5,608). In a 1996 poll celebrating the 50th anniversary of the NBA, Parish was voted one of the 50 Greatest Players of all-time. His nickname was “The Chief”.

He is now considered one of the greatest players in NBA history.

Kevin Willis (born September 3, 1962) is an American former professional basketball player who played for six teams in his 21-year National Basketball Association (NBA) career. He was a center during most of his career but also played as a power forward.
Willis attended McClymonds High School in Oakland, California, and then transferred to Wright Junior College (now known as Cerritos College) in Norwalk, California. He played two seasons of junior college basketball and was awarded the Most Valuable Player award of the Golden State Athletic Conference (now known as the Pacific West Conference) in 1982. He was then recruited to play for the University of Michigan where he played two seasons of college basketball under head coach Bill Frieder. As a senior, Willis averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds per game and was named to the All-Big Ten Conference team.
The Atlanta Hawks selected Willis in the 1984 NBA draft with the 11th overall pick. He became a regular starter during his second season with the Hawks and helped the team make the playoffs for the first time since 1978. In 1988–89, he averaged 18 points and 13 rebounds per game and was named to his first NBA All-Star team. Willis remained with the Hawks for seven seasons before being traded to the Miami Heat in 1994.He continued to be one of the league’s top rebounders while playing for Miami and ranked among the league leaders averaging double figures in rebounds during each of his three seasons with them.
In 1997, Miami traded Willis along with their first round draft pick to Toronto Raptors for Zan Tabak and John Wallace. Willis served as a mentor for young players Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady on some very bad Raptors teams, reaching double digits in rebounds six times in four seasons with Toronto before being traded back to Atlanta in 2001 where he won an NBA Championship with them in his first season back. After playing two more seasons with Atlanta, he signed as a free agent with Memphis Grizzlies where he became their starting center playing all 82 games during each of his two seasons there before retiring from basketball at age 44 after 21 years in 2006.

Kevin Willis is a retired American professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was the oldest active player in the NBA for much of his career, and holds the record for most seasons played in the league.
Willis was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in 1984 after a stellar career at Michigan State University. He quickly became one of the Hawks’ best players, averaging double figures in points and rebounds for 11 straight seasons. In 1995, he was traded to the Miami Heat, where he helped lead the team to its first ever NBA Finals appearance. After stints with several other teams, Willis returned to Atlanta in 2006 and played two more seasons before retiring.
In total, Willis played 21 seasons in the NBA, an impressive feat for any player. He appeared in 1,424 games (second most all-time among players who did not start every game), and is one of only eight players to have played 1,400 or more games without starting every one of them. Willis also ranks sixth all-time in games played without appearing in an All-Star game.

Dikembe Mutombo is the oldest NBA player. He was born on June 25, 1966, in Kinshasa, Zaire. Mutombo played for the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, and New York Knicks. He was an eight-time NBA All-Star and a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo (born June 25, 1966), commonly referred to as Dikembe Mutombo, is a Congolese-American retired professional basketball player. He played 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Outside basketball, he has become well known for his humanitarian work.
Mutombo was born on June 25, 1966, in Leopoldville, DR Congo (now Kinshasa, Congo), one of twelve children of Sam and Biamba Marie Mutombo. He speaks English, Spanish, French, Swahili, Lingala, Tshiluba and six Central African dialects fluently. He is a member of the Luba ethnic group.
At age ten, Mutombo was implicated in his father’s assassination by rebel forces in their native country but he denies any involvement in the crime. As a result of the incident, he adopted the name “Dikembe” which means “Rejoice because of others’ sufferings”.

Mutombo is also the NBA’s all-time leader in blocked shots.
