It’s the end of June and the NBA Finals have wrapped up.
What does this mean for the off-season? What are the free agents?
What trades can we expect? Let’s take a look at the post-Finals NBA landscape.
The NBA Finals
The NBA Finals are the annual championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Eastern and Western conference champions play a best-of-seven game series to determine the league champion. The winning team of the series receives the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
The teams
The NBA Finals are a best-of-seven championship series played between the National Basketball Association (NBA) champion and the winning team of the NBA Playoffs. The first round of the playoffs is a best-of-seven series played between the four divisional champions, followed by two rounds of best-of-seven series between the surviving teams. The Finals is also a best-of-seven series.
The Eastern Conference champion plays the Western Conference champion in the Finals. In 1975, when the NBA merged with its rival, the American Basketball Association (ABA), each league’s playoff format was adopted: thus, the Eastern Conference champion played the Western Conference champion in what was then known as the NBA World Championship Series until 1985, when it became known as the NBA Finals.

After the Finals
The NBA Finals are over and the Golden State Warriors are the champions. But, what happens now? The off-season is where teams make trades, draft picks, and sign free agents. This is where teams can make or break their season.
The offseason
The NBA Finals are over, and now it’s time for the offseason.
During the offseason, teams will focus on rebuilding through the NBA Draft, making trades, and signing free agents.
The first order of business for most teams is the NBA Draft. The NBA Draft is held every June, and is a chance for teams to add young talent to their rosters.
After the draft, teams will look to make trades. Trades can be used to improve a team’s roster, or to unload players who don’t fit into a team’s plans.
Finally, teams will try to sign free agents. Free agents are players who are not under contract with any team, and are free to sign with any team that they choose.
The offseason is an important time for all 30 NBA teams, and it will be interesting to see how each team chooses to improve its roster.
The draft
The NBA draft is an annual event in which the thirty teams that make up the National Basketball Association (NBA) select players who have either just completed their rookie seasons in college basketball or who have been playing professionally in another league.
