In his first season with the Rockets, Lin averaged 13.4 points and 6.1 assists per game, starting all 82 games for the team. The Rockets made the playoffs that year, but were defeated by the Portland Trail Blazers in six games in the first round.

The following season, Lin’s scoring average dipped to 12 points per game, but he still started 74 games for the team. The Rockets made the playoffs again, but were once again defeated in the first round; this time by the eventual NBA champion San Antonio Spurs.

Following that second playoff defeat,Lin was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. He had a solid season with the Lakers, averaging 11.2 points and 4.6 assists per game while starting all 82 games for the team. However,the Lakers failed to make the playoffs that year.

Lin played one more season forthe Lakers before being released bythe team in July of 2015. He then spent time with boththe Charlotte Hornets and Brooklyn Netsbefore finally settling with his current team,the Atlanta Hawks,in July of 2016.

Los Angeles Lakers

In July 2012, the New York Knicks offered Lin a contract worth $25 million over four years, which he accepted. The terms of the contract caused much controversy and debate because it included a “poison pill” provision that would have paid Lin $15 million in the fourth year if he was still on the Knicks’ roster. Critics argued that the provision was inserted by the Knicks to discourage other teams from claiming Lin off waivers. The Knicks later renounced their rights to Lin, making him an unrestricted free agent.
