Who Won the NBA All Star MVP?
The 2020 NBA All Star Game was held on February 16th in Chicago, Illinois. The game featured some of the best players in the league, and the final score was 157-155. The MVP of the game was Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Russell Westbrook
The National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star Game MVP is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) award given to the player(s) voted best of the annual All-Star Game. The award was established in 1953 when NBA officials decided to designate an MVP for each year’s game. The league also re-honored players from the previous two All-Star Games. Oscar Robertson is the only player to win the award three times. Bob Pettit and Michael Jordan have each won the award twice, while Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant have each won it once. Pettit and Jordan are also the only players to win consecutive awards. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has the distinction of playing in the most All-Star Games (18) without winning the All-Star Game MVP.
Westbrook became the first player in NBA history to record a triple double in an All-Star Game. He finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, leading the Western Conference to a 196–173 victory over the Eastern Conference. Westbrook was named as one of the Western Conference’s starters for the game after receiving the most fan votes among all players in both conferences. He was joined in the starting lineup by fellow Thunder teammate Kevin Durant, as well as Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant and Anthony Davis. It was Westbrook’s second consecutive All-Star selection, and fourth overall.
James Harden
Houston Rockets guard James Harden won the NBA All-Star MVP on Sunday, scoring 29 points and adding eight assists in his team’s 148-143 victory over Team LeBron.
Harden was named a starter for Team LeBron but didn’t play in the first half as the two teams played to a 67-all tie. He took over in the second half, however, scoring 17 points in the third quarter to help his team take control of the game.
It is Harden’s first All-Star MVP award. He joins Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James as the only players to win back-to-back MVPs (Harden won last year’s regular season MVP award).
LeBron James
LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers is the 2020 NBA All-Star Game MVP, his record-tying fourth such honor. James led Team LeBron to a 157-155 victory over Team Giannis on Sunday night at the United Center in Chicago.
Kawhi Leonard
Kawhi Leonard, who led the Clippers to the best record in the NBA during the regular season, was named MVP of the NBA All-Star Game after scoring 30 points to help his team to a 157-155 victory over Team LeBron on Sunday night.
It is the second time Leonard has been named MVP of the All-Star Game, as he also won the award in 2019. He joins LeBron James as the only player to win multiple All-Star MVPs since the award was first given out in 1953.
Leonard was one of four Clippers players to score at least 20 points in the game, as Paul George (21), Reggie Jackson (20) and Nicolas Batum (20) all reached that mark. Leonard also had seven rebounds and five assists in 33 minutes of action.
