The Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers have won the 2020 NBA Finals. This is the Lakers’ record-tying 17th NBA championship and their first since 2010. LeBron James has been named the NBA Finals MVP for the fourth time in his career.
The Miami Heat
The Miami Heat are an American professional basketball team based in Miami. The Heat compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Southeast Division. The Heat play their home games at American Airlines Arena, and have won three NBA championships.
The franchise began play in 1988 as an expansion team, where after a period of mediocrity, the Heat would gain relevance during the 1990s following the appointment of former head coach Pat Riley in 1996, who would lead the team to four conference titles, alongside two NBA championships in both 2006 and 2012. The Heat experienced a decline following Riles’ departure in 2003, but managed to make the playoffs every year from 2005 to 2008. In 2010, following LeBron James and Chris Bosh’s arrival, they advanced to NBA Finals for the second time in four years. James would lead them to their first ever championship in franchise history that same year.
Boshfolk was traded to the Toronto Raptors in 2014 and James opted out of his contract and returned to his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers; Wade remained with the Heat for one more season before signing with his hometown Chicago Bulls in 2016. The team went through another period of mediocrity from 2016 through 2018 but were able to make another playoff appearance led by all-star guard Goran Dragic in 2019; however they were swept by eventual champions Toronto Raptors.
