How Many NBA Championships Have the Warriors Won?

NBA Championships

The Golden State Warriors are a professional basketball team based in Oakland, California. They are members of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Warriors have won three NBA championships, four Western Conference championships, and one NBA Finals MVP award.

2017 NBA Finals

The 2017 NBA Finals was the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s 2016–17 season and conclusion of the 2017 playoffs. The Western Conference champion Golden State Warriors defeated the defending NBA champion and Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers 4–1 in a best-of-seven series. This Finals was the first time in NBA history that two teams had met for a third consecutive year. The Cavaliers sought to repeat as champions after winning the title in 2016, while the Warriors won their first title since 1975. The Warriors earned home court advantage with a league-best record of 67–15, while the Cavaliers finished the regular season with an Eastern Conference-best record of 51–31.

In Game 1, Kevin Durant achieved his first triple-double in a Finals game as he led Golden State to a 113–91 victory; Cleveland shooting guard Kyrie Irving left late in the third quarter with an apparent knee injury and did not return for the rest of the series. Durant’s 33 points were a game-high, while Irving was limited to 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting. LeBron James had 28 points while becoming only the sixth player in NBA history to accumulate 900 playoff assists, but also became the first player ever to score 30 or more points and shoot less than 40 percent in six consecutive Finals games. In Game 2, James scored 39 points as Cleveland evened the series with a 112–97 win. Golden State forward Andre Iguodala left midway through the fourth quarter after suffering a bone contusion in his left knee; X-rays later proved negative. With 34 points from Durant and 32 from Stephen Curry, Golden State took control of the series with their third straight victory following James’ performance in Game 3 as they won 118–113 despite 34 points from James and 26 from Irving; Curry scored 38 points for Golden State as his three pointers helped seal their 110–102 road win in Game 4 to take a 3–1 lead back home to Oakland for Game 5.[1]During a postgame press conference after suffering their second straight defeat, an emotional James stated he played Game 3 “like s–t”, while head coach Tyronn Lue announced he would be making changes to his rotations for Game 5.[2][3] In Game 5, Durant scored 20 of his 39 points during an 18–0 run spanning late third quarter into early fourth quarter as Golden State closed out their 115–101 victory to win their second championship in three seasons.[4] Durant was named Finals MVP for averaging 35.2 points (on 55/47/90 shooting splits), 8.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1 block per game during his maiden appearance in an NBA Finals series; he became only sixth player ever (and first since Shaquille O’Neal in 2000) to average at least 35/8/5 during an entire playoff campaign en route to winning Finals MVP honors.[5][6]

2016 NBA Finals

On June 2, 2016, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals to win their first championship in 40 years. The Warriors won the best-of-seven series 4–3, becoming the first team in NBA history to come back from a 3–1 deficit in the Finals.

2015 NBA Finals

The 2015 NBA Finals was the championship series of the 2014–15 season of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the conclusion of the season’s playoffs. Golden State, who finished the regular season with a league-best 67–15 record, won their fourth NBA title, and first in 40 years. They defeated the defending champions Cleveland Cavaliers in six games (4–2), becoming just the sixth team in NBA history to come back from a two-game deficit in the Finals. Cleveland’s LeBron James – who averaged 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game during the entire playoffs – became only second player ever to receive all three MVP Awards in one single postseason, joining Shaquille O’Neal (2000). In Game 1,
Golden State broke Cleveland’s consecutive playoff homecourt winning streak dating back to Game 5 of 2009 Eastern Conference Finals by defeating them 108–100. The Cavaliers won Games 2 and 3, but the Warriors won Games 4 and 5 to take a 3–2 lead as they became first team ever to win consecutive road games in an NBA Finals series since 1981 Boston Celtics did it against Houston Rockets. Game 6 was held on June 16 at Oracle Arena; it is widely regarded as one of greatest games in NBA history. With 58 seconds left in regulation time and Golden State leading 106–103, James made a running layup that tied the score at 106 points apiece; Stephen Curry then made a three-pointer with under 50 seconds remaining. Andre Iguodala subsequently intercepted an errant pass by Cavs’ star Kyrie Irving with less than 30 seconds left on clock that led to two free throws by Curry; this gave Golden State a 110–108 lead which they did not relinquish thereafter. Curry finished with 25 points while James had 32; Iguodala was named as series MVP after averaging 16 points per game while recording five steals and seven blocks during entire series behind his lockdown defense on James.[1][2]
