What Are All Of The NBA Teams?

There are thirty NBA teams total, split evenly between the Eastern and Western conferences. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at all of the teams in the league and what makes them unique.

Eastern Conference

There are fifteen teams in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). These teams are the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, and the Washington Wizards.

Atlantic Division

The Atlantic Division is one of the three divisions of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division consists of five teams located in the northeastern United States.

The Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Toronto Raptors make up the division. The division has been home to some of the NBA’s most successful teams, including Celtic dynasties led by Bill Russell and Larry Bird as well as Knicks teams led by Willis Reed and Patrick Ewing.

The Atlantic Division has also been home to some of the NBA’s most heated rivalries, such as the Knicks-Nets rivalry and the Celtics-76ers rivalry.

Central Division

The Central Division is one of the three divisions in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Division consists of five teams, all located in the Midwestern United States Mid-Atlantic region.

The Central Division was created at the start of the 1970–71 NBA season as part of the Eastern Conference. At that time, it consisted of six teams: the Chicago Bulls, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Detroit Pistons, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Indiana Pacers, and the Atlanta Hawks (which were then based in Atlanta). The Milwaukee Bucks have won the most Central Division championships, with nine. The Chicago Bulls have won eight Central Division championships.

Southeast Division

The Southeast Division is one of the three divisions in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division consists of five teams, all of which are in the southeastern United States.

The Southeast Division was formed in 2004 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Charlotte. The expansion Charlotte Bobcats (now the Charlotte Hornets) joined existing Southeast Division members Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and Washington Wizards.

In the 2013 NBA conference realignment, the Southeast Division absorbed the Charlotte Bobcats and two other teams from the former Southwest Division – the Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans (now the New Orleans Pelicans).

Western Conference

There are fifteen teams in the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). These teams are the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Portland Trail Blazers, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Houston Rockets, the Utah Jazz, the Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Golden State Warriors, the Sacramento Kings, the San Antonio Spurs, the Dallas Mavericks, the Memphis Grizzlies, the New Orleans Pelicans, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Phoenix Suns.

Southwest Division

The Southwest Division is a division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division consists of five teams, all located in the Southwestern United States: the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans and San Antonio Spurs.

The Southwest Division was formed prior to the 1970–71 NBA season when the NBA realigned itself into two conferences of three divisions each. At that time, the San Diego Rockets became a part of this division. As a result of the Houston Oilers’ move to Tennessee in 1997, which resulted in them becoming the Tennessee Oilers (and later the Tennessee Titans), and as a result of the Charlotte Hornets temporary relocation to New Orleans from 2002 to 2004 while their home arena was being renovated, this is currently one of only two divisions in which all five teams have never left nor changed cities (the other being the Southeast Division).

Since its inception, however, only two Southwest Division teams have won an NBA championship: the San Antonio Spurs, who have won five championships since 1999; and the Dallas Mavericks, who won their first and only championship in 2011. As of 2018–19 season update, all five teams in this division have qualified for playoffs at least once under their current team name.

Northwest Division

The Northwest Division of the Western Conference is made up of the following teams:

-Denver Nuggets
-Minnesota Timberwolves
-Portland Trail Blazers
-Oklahoma City Thunder
-Utah Jazz

Pacific Division

The Pacific Division is one of the three divisions in the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division consists of five teams, four of which are based in California.

The Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Sacramento Kings are all members of the Pacific Division. The fifth team in the division is the Phoenix Suns, who are located in Arizona.

The Pacific Division has been home to some of the NBA’s most successful teams over the years. The Lakers and Suns have both won multiple NBA championships, while the Warriors have won three championships since 2015.
