The franchise was founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, one of three expansion teams to join the NBA that year. The Braves moved from Buffalo, New York to San Diego, California in 1978 and became known as the San Diego Clippers. In 1984, The Clippers moved to Los Angeles. Through much of its history, the franchise failed to see significant regular season or playoff success. The Clippers were frequently seen as an example of a perennial loser in American professional sports, drawing unfavorable comparisons to their historically successful city rivals, the Lakers.

The Golden State Warriors

The Warriors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Warriors play their home games at the Chase Center in San Francisco. Founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, the Warriors relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962 and took the city’s name, before changing its geographic moniker to Golden State in 1971. They became known for their signature style of play, characterized by fast breaks culminating in frequent scoring by players such as Wilt Chamberlain, Rick Barry, and Jerry West.

LeBron James is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is widely considered to be one of the greatest basketball players in NBA history. James has won four NBA championships, four NBA Most Valuable Player Awards, four Finals MVP Awards, and two Olympic gold medals. He has also been selected to 17 NBA All-Star teams, 18 All-NBA teams, and six All-Defensive teams, and is the Lakers’ all-time leading scorer.

Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi Anthony Leonard (/kəˈwaɪ/ kə-WY; born June 29, 1991) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played two seasons of college basketball for San Diego State University, and was named a consensus second-team All-American as a sophomore. He was selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 15th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, but was traded to the San Antonio Spurs on draft night.

Leonard won an NBA championship with the Spurs in 2014 and was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. He was selected to his first All-Star Game in 2016, and thereafter became a two-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA first teamer. In 2017 and 2018, he helped lead the Spurs to consecutive first round playoff defeats despite putting up career numbers. After nine seasons with the Spurs, Leonard requested a trade to either the Los Angeles Lakers or Clippers, causing tensions within the franchise. The Spurs granted his request, and he was subsequently traded to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Pöltl and a protected 2019 first-round draft pick.

In his first season with the Raptors, Leonard led them to their first NBA championship in franchise history, and was named Finals MVP again. Kawhi Anthony Leonard was born on June 29, 1991, in Los Angeles, California, to Mark Leonard and Kim Robertson. Mark Leonard worked for Ameriquest Mortgage Company while Kim Robertson worked for Riverside County Department of Social Services; they met while attending Crenshaw High School. His maternal grandfather is from Louisiana while his other ancestors are African American. Growing up under gang influence in Compton’s Rosslyn Farms neighborhood at times put him at risk; he witnessed age mates being involved with gangs or drug dealerships instead of pursuing more productive goals such as school or college basketball.[10] Describing himself as “very shy” as a youngster,[nb 1] Leonard preferred playing sports rather than socializing: “When I moved from my old neighborhood to [a] new one I didn’t know anybody”.

Steph Curry

Steph Curry is an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). A six-time NBA All-Star, Curry has been named the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) twice and won three NBA championships with the Warriors.
