Has Anyone Ever Had A Quadruple Double In The NBA?

The answer to this question is a resounding yes! In fact, there have been eleven different players who have achieved the feat of a quadruple double in the history of the NBA.

Has Anyone Ever Had A Quadruple Double In The NBA?

Introduction

In basketball, a quadruple double is the accumulation of a double-digit number total in four different statistical categories in a game. The specific categories vary depending on which set of statistics are being used, but typically they include points, rebounds, assists, and either steals or blocks.

What is a Quadruple Double?

In basketball, a quadruple double is two statistics in a game accumulated by a single player in four different categories—points, rebounds, assists, and steals—with the added condition that the player must also commit no more than ten personal fouls throughout the course of the game. The most recent and most famous quadruple double was recorded by Shaquille O’Neal of the Los Angeles Lakers on March 6, 2000, against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Quadruple Doubles in the NBA

A quadruple double is a very rare feat in the NBA. In fact, there have only been two recorded instances of it in the history of the league. The first quadruple double was achieved by Nate Thurmond in 1974 and the second was achieved by Hakeem Olajuwon in 1990.

Oscar Robertson

Oscar Robertson, nicknamed “The Big O”, is an American former professional basketball player who played for the Cincinnati Royals and the Milwaukee Bucks. The 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m), 220 lb (100 kg) Robertson played point guard and was a 12-time All-Star, 11-time member of the All-NBA Team, and one-time winner of the MVP award in 14 professional seasons. He is the only player in NBA history to average a triple-double for an entire season and is one of two players to average a triple-double for their careers. In 1962, Robertson became the first player in NBA history to achieve a quadruple double when he had 27 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 steals against the Detroit Pistons.

Hakeem Olajuwon

Hakeem Olajuwon is the only player in NBA history to record a quadruple double, doing so on March 29, 1986, in a game between the Houston Rockets and the Milwaukee Bucks. He tallied 18 points, 16 rebounds, 11 assists, and 10 blocks in the Rockets’ 120-117 victory.

David Robinson

In 1994, Robinson became the first and only player in NBA history to be named Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week, and Rebounder of the Week all in the same week. Robinson is also one of four players to win an NBA championship, the Olympic gold medal, and an NCAA Championship. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009, and his jersey number 50 was retired by the Spurs in 2003. In 1997, he was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.

Conclusion

No player has ever officially recorded a quadruple double in an NBA game. There have been numerous instances where players have come close, but no one has ever been able to record 10 or more points, rebounds, assists, and blocks or steals in a single game. While it seems unlikely that anyone will ever reach this feat, it’s not impossible. With the ever-increasing pace of the game and the increasing athleticism of players, it’s possible that someone could one day achieve this rare feat.
