The streak began on November 5, 1971 with a 120-104 victory over the Baltimore Bullets and ended nearly three months later on January 7, 1972 with a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. It is widely considered one of the greatest achievements in sports history.
The Lakers were led by superstar players such as Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, and Elgin Baylor, and they were coached by future Hall of Famer Bill Sharman. They went on to win 28 straight games, which surpassed the previous record of 20 straight wins to begin a season set by the 1993–94 Houston Rockets and matched by the 1948–49 Washington Capitols and the 2007–08 Houston Rockets.
