The Original Six

The term “Original Six” is used in the National Hockey League (NHL) to refer to the original six teams that made up the league: Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs. These six teams were the only ones in the NHL from 1942 until 1967, when the league doubled in size with the addition of six expansion teams.

Despite their long history and tradition, the Original Six teams have not been as successful as other teams in recent years.
