Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins is currently leading the NHL in points with 84. He is followed by Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers with 83 and Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks with 82.
Most points in a season
The most points achieved in an NHL season is 132, a record that has been held by three different players: Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Jaromir Jagr. Gretzky’s 132-point season came in 1985-86, Lemieux’s in 1988-89, and Jagr’s in 1995-96. All three of these seasons were lockout-shortened seasons consisting of only 50 or 52 games played instead of the usual 82. In an 82-game season, the most points ever achieved was 128, by Gretzky in 1981-82.

Second on the list is Jaromir Jagr, who has amassed 1,921 points over his career thus far. Mark Messier is third with 1,887 points. Marian Hossa and Patrick Kane round out the top five with 1,349 and 1,072 points respectively.

Sidney Crosby is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who serves as captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). Crosby was drafted first overall by the Penguins in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, becoming the youngest player to be drafted first overall in the NHL. He is also the only player to have won the Stanley Cup, Olympic gold medal, World Championship, World Cup and IIHF World U20 Championship.
Wayne Gretzky
In the history of the National Hockey League, Wayne Gretzky has amassed the most points with 2,857. This is almost 1,000 points more than the second highest scorer, Jaromir Jagr, who has 1,921 career points. Gretzky achieved this impressive feat over the course of his 20-year NHL career with four different teams: the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and New York Rangers. He is widely regarded as the greatest hockey player of all time.
Mario Lemieux
Mario Lemieux is a name that is synonymous with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He is the only player in NHL history to score 200 points in a season, a feat he accomplished four times. He also holds the penguins franchise records for most goals, assists and points. In 1992, he became the first player in NHL history to win all four major awards – the Hart Trophy (MVP), Art Ross Trophy (scoring champion), Lester B Pearson Award (Player’s Choice) and the Stanley Cup.
Jaromir Jagr
Jaromir Jagr is a Czech professional ice hockey player who is currently playing for the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins. He is one of the most decorated players in NHL history, having won numerous awards and accolades throughout his career.
As of the 2018-19 NHL season, Jagr ranks second in all-time points with 1,921 (863 goals and 1,058 assists) behind only Wayne Gretzky. He is also fourth in all-time goals behind Gretzky, Brett Hull and Gordie Howe. In terms of assists, Jagr ranks sixth all-time and is just two assists shy of passing Marcel Dionne for fifth place.
