This made Jericho the first wrestler to have won WWE’s Intercontinental Championship, WCW’s World Television Championship and NJPW’s IWGP Intercontinental Championship.
At The New Beginning in Osaka on February 10, Jericho successfully defended his championship against Tetsuya Naito. On May 3 at Wrestling Dontaku 2018, Jericho defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi to retain the title. On June 9 at Dominion 6.9 in Osaka-jo Hall, Jericho lost the title to Naito in a rematch.
On October 8 at King of Pro-Wrestling, Jericho defeated Hirooki Goto to win the IWGP Intercontinental Championship for the second time. He successfully defended it against Goto in a rematch on November 7 at Power Struggle.
Chris Jericho’s All Elite Wrestling career
After leaving WWE in October 2018, Jericho made sporadic wrestling appearances throughout 2019 while concentrating on his rock band Fozzy’s tenth studio album, Undeniable. On May 25, 2019, Jericho made a surprise appearance at Double or Nothing, All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) inaugural pay-per-view event, attacking Cody Rhodes after his match. The following month, Jericho was revealed as the mystery opponent for Jungle Boy at Fyter Fest in a singles match, which he won. At All Out, Jericho defeated Hangman Page to win the inaugural AEW World Championship. He successfully defended the title against Dustin Rhodes at Full Gear before losing it to Rey Fenix at Winter is Coming on December 2, 2020.
