Introduction
Paige quit WWE on April 9th, 2018. The reason for her departure has not been made public, but it is speculated that she was either forced to retire due to injury, or she chose to leave due to personal issues.
Paige’s WWE Career
Paige has been with WWE for a long time, and she has had a lot of success. She is a former Divas Champion and has held the title for a long time. She is also a former NXT Women’s Champion. Recently, there have been rumors that Paige has quit WWE.
Debut
Paige made her WWE debut in April of 2014, and quickly rose to prominence as a top contender in the Women’s division. She became the inaugural NXT Women’s Champion, and then went on to win the WWE Divas Championship in her first match on the main roster. Paige’s career was momentarily put on hold due to injury, but she returned to action in late 2017 and has been a featured performer on WWE programming ever since. As of 2019, Paige is still under contract with WWE and continues to be a popular Superstar with fans worldwide.
NXT
Paige first came to prominence in WWE as a part of their developmental branch, NXT. She quickly made a name for herself as a fierce competitor, winning the NXT Women’s Championship in her very first match. She held the title for over 200 days, before being called up to the main roster.
Divas Champion
Paige became the youngest competitor in WWE Divas Championship history at the age of 21 by defeating AJ Lee on April 7, 2014, becoming only the second woman to have held both the NXT Women’s and Divas Championships. Paige had her first successful title defense on the May 5 edition of Raw against Alicia Fox. On May 31 at Payback, Paige defeated Eva Marie in a singles match. After several more successful title defenses, Paige dropped the title to Nikki Bella at Survivor Series on November 23.
Injuries
Paige had to retire from in-ring competition in WWE due to numerous injuries, the effects of which took a toll on her mentally and physically. Paige noted that her neck was “fusing together” and that she suffered from an bulboid degeneration. She was told that if she had one more match, she would end up paralyzed.
Paige’s Personal Life
Paige had an interesting start to her WWE career. She was born into a wrestling family and started wrestling at a young age. She made her way up through the ranks and became a WWE Diva. However, Paige has had a tumultuous personal life. She has been engaged and broken off engagements multiple times. She has also been dating a few WWE superstars.
Alberto Del Rio
On October 11, 2016, it was reported that Paige had been pulled from live events due to an injury. The following day, on the October 12 episode of WWE SmackDown, Paige defeated Becky Lynch in a singles match, after which Lynch attacked Paige backstage, thereby turning heel in the process. As a result of the kayfabe attack, Paige was written off television. The following week on SmackDown, after Lynch explained her actions and said that she attacked Paige because “she (Paige) had it coming”, General Manager Daniel Bryan announced that Lynch would face Paige in a Falls Count Anywhere match at No Mercy. The match ended in a no contest due to both women attacking each other before the match could even start. The storyline between the two women continued on the October 24 episode of SmackDown, when both women attacked each other during their respective matches. Later that night, after another backstage brawl between them and with both women having bloodied each other up, Bryan announced that their Falls Count Anywhere match at No Mercy would now be a No Disqualification match as well. At the pay-per-view event, Paige defeated Becky Lynch in their No Disqualification match after hitting her with a steel chair.
Rumors of a sex tape
Over the past few months, there have been numerous rumors circulating that Paige has a sex tape that is being shopped around. Paige has addressed these rumors on multiple occasions, most recently in an interview with Lilian Garcia on Chasing Glory.
In the interview, Paige said that the rumors are “100% not true” and that she is “not happy” about them. She also said that she has no idea where the rumors started, but she thinks they may be from people who are trying to blackmail her.
Why Paige Might Have Quit WWE
Paige has been absent from WWE television for a few weeks now, and many fans are wondering if she has quit the company. There are a few reasons why Paige might have decided to leave WWE. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Injuries
Paige has a long history of injuries, which may have contributed to her early retirement. In 2016, she suffered a serious neck injury that sidelined her for over a year. Paige has said that this was the hardest thing she’s ever been through, and it definitely took a toll on her mental health. She came back from that injury, but then in December of 2017 she injured her shoulder. This led to another surgery and another long recovery period. It seems that Paige just couldn’t catch a break when it came to her health, and these injuries likely played a role in her decision to retire from WWE.
Personal life
In March 2018, it was reported that Paige had quit WWE due to injuries. She was also dealing with a neck injury, from which she had been cleared to return in December, but chose not to do so out of fear that she might get injured again. Paige’s fiancé, Alberto Del Rio, had also left WWE earlier in the year. On the March 12 episode of Raw, Paige then announced her retirement from wrestling due to injury.
Conclusion
On April 9th, Paige took to social media to announce that she was done with WWE. “I will never forget the opportunities they have given me and helping me realize my dream,” Paige said in a statement. “To the WWE Universe — thank you for making me feel like one of your own. I love this industry and performing in front of all of you fans, but after years of ups and downs, I need to spend some time taking care of myself.”
This announcement came as a surprise to many since Paige had just returned to WWE television a few weeks ago after a long absence due to injury. Paige was one of the original stars of WWE’s NXT brand and was thrust into the spotlight when she won the Divas Championship on her Raw debut in 2014. She held the title for two more reigns before leaving WWE in 2016 due to her neck injury.
Paige has had a tumultuous few years both inside and outside of WWE. In 2017, she was suspended twice by WWE for violating their wellness policy and then leaked private photos and videos were released without her consent. Most recently, Paige was injured again and had to vacate her SmackDown Women’s Championship due to doctors not cleared her to compete. It appears that this string of bad luck has finally led to Paige throwing in the towel on her WWE career.
