SEO Basics
Set up GSC and Bing Webmaster tools
If you want your website to rank in Google, you need to submit your site to Google Search Console (formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools). This is a free service that allows you to see how your site is performing in Google Search, and to get insights on how to improve it.
To set up GSC, visit https://search.google.com/search-console/about and click “Start Now”. You’ll be prompted to sign in with your Google account (if you don’t have one, you can create one for free). Once you’re signed in, GSC will ask you to verify that you own the website. There are a few different ways to do this, but the simplest is probably to add a meta tag to your site’s homepage.
Once you’ve verified your site, you can start exploring all the things GSC can do! If you want to learn more about how to use GSC, check out this blog post: https://moz.com/blog/seo-basics-google-search-console.
In addition to GSC, Bing also has a webmaster tool that allows you to submit your site and get insights on how it’s performing in Bing search. The process for setting this up is similar to GSC – visit https://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster and sign in with your Microsoft account (again, if you don’t have one, they’re free to create). Once you’re signed in, Bing will ask you to verify that you own the website. You can do this by adding a meta tag to your homepage or uploading an XML file containing your verification code.

Set up Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a powerful (and free) website traffic analysis tool that provides data about the number of visitors to your site, where they come from, what pages they visit, and how long they stay. This information can be used to improve your website’s design and content, as well as track the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns. Setting up Google Analytics is quick and easy, and only takes a few minutes.
1. Create a Google account if you don’t already have one. You’ll need a Google account in order to use Google Analytics.
2. Go to the Google Analytics website and click “Sign up for free”.
3. Enter your account information. You’ll need to provide your name, website name, website URL, time zone, and select an industry category.
4. Choose whether you want to share your data with Google products. If you’re not sure, it’s best to select “no”.
5. Enter your billing information. Google Analytics is a free service, but you will need to provide a credit card in order to sign up. Your card will not be charged unless you upgrade to a paid version of the service at a later date.
6. Read and agree to the Terms of Service agreement.
7. Click “Create new account”.
Install and configure an SEO plugin (wordpress)
search engine optimization (SEO) is the practice of improving the ranking of a website on search engines. The higher the ranking, the more likely people are to find the website.
WordPress is a popular content management system (CMS), and many SEO plugins are available for it. One of the most popular is Yoast SEO.
To install and configure Yoast SEO:
1. Log in to your WordPress site as an administrator.
2. In the left sidebar, click Plugins, then Add New.
3. Search for Yoast SEO.
4. Click Install Now, then Activate.
5. A message will appear asking you to enter your license key. If you don’t have a license key, you can purchase one from Yoast or continue without one.
6. Click Continue Without License Key, then Continue anyway if you see a message asking if you’re sure. This will allow you to use Yoast SEO without receiving updates or support from Yoast.
7. In the left sidebar, click SEO, then General Settings. Here you can configure general settings for Yoast SEO such as your site’s name and description, as well as settings for breadcrumbs and RSS feeds.
8 .When you’re finished configuring general settings, click Save Changes at the bottom of the page
Keyword Research
Autoblogging can be a great way to quickly generate content for your website without having to put in a lot of effort. You can find PLR articles, spin them, and post them to your autoblog which will save you time. Autoblogging can also help you rank higher in the search engines because you will have more content on your site. However, there can be a few downsides to it as well. Let’s get into the details.
Identify your competitors
Before you begin your keyword research, it’s important to identify your main competitors. This will help you not only get an idea of the competition level for each keyword, but also give you some direction on which keywords you should be targeting.
To start, go to Google and enter in your main competitor’s URL. For this example, we’ll use www.example.com. Once you hit enter, you should see something like this:
In the top left-hand corner, you’ll see the name of your competitor and their current Google ranking. In the screenshot above, our hypothetical competitor is currently ranked #4. This means that they are the 4th result that shows up when someone enters in that particular keyword.
Now that we know where our competitor ranks, let’s take a look at their website and see what keywords they are targeting. To do this, simply go to their homepage and look at the title tag:
The title tag is the HTML element that tells Google what your page is about. In the example above, our competitor’s title tag is “Example | The leading website for XYZ”. From this, we can see that they are targeting the keyword “Example” as well as the phrase “leading website for XYZ”.
Conduct a keyword gap analysis
A keyword gap analysis is a process whereby you compare your website’s keywords to those of your competitors in order to identify opportunities to improve your ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs).
There are a number of methods you can use to conduct a gap analysis, but the simplest is to create a spreadsheet with three columns:
-Your website’s keywords
-Competitor 1’s keywords
-Competitor 2’s keywords
Once you have populated the spreadsheet, you can then use a function like VLOOKUP to identify which of your competitors are ranking for keywords that you are not. This will give you a list of potential keywords that you can target in order to improve your SERP ranking.
Find your main ‘money’ keywords
To find your main “money” keywords, start by brainstorming a list of potential keywords related to your business or website. Once you have a solid list of potential keywords, you’ll want to use a keyword research tool to help you narrow down your options and find the most effective keywords for your business.
There are a number of different keyword research tools available, but we recommend using Google’s Keyword Planner. To use the Keyword Planner, simply enter your list of potential keywords into the tool and get results related to each keyword, including average monthly searches, competition level, and suggested bid amount.
Once you’ve used the Keyword Planner to narrow down your list of potential keywords, you should have a solid list of main “money” keywords that you can use to drive traffic to your website or blog.
Technical SEO
Technical SEO can be a great way to improve your website’s ranking in the search engines. It is important to make sure your website is accessible to both users and search engine bots. Technical SEO includes optimizing your website’s structure, tags, and code.
Leverage “Inspect URL” feature in GSC
Google’s “Inspect URL” feature allows you to check if your site is optimized for certain search queries. You can use this tool to see how well your site ranks for a particular query, and to find out what improvements you can make to optimize your site for that query.
To access the “Inspect URL” feature, simply log in to your Google Search Console account and enter the URL of the page you want to check in the “Inspect any URL” box.
Once you’ve entered the URL, Google will analyze your page and provide a report detailing how well your page is optimized for the query you entered. The report will also provide some recommendations on how you can improve your page’s optimization for that query.
Ensure your website is mobile-friendly
Make sure your website is designed to be mobile-friendly. In other words, it should be responsive, meaning it will resize and adjust to any screen size. This is important because 64% of Google searches are now done on mobile devices. A mobile-friendly website will also load faster, which is important because 40% of people will abandon a website if it takes more than 3 seconds to load.
Check your site’s loading speed
How fast is your website? Is it loading as quickly as it should be? If it’s not, you could be at a disadvantage when competing for online customers. A slow website can frustrate visitors and cause them to leave without making a purchase. It can also hurt your search engine ranking, making it harder for potential customers to find your site.
To find out how fast your website is loading, you can use a free tool like Google’s PageSpeed Insights. Just enter your URL and click “Analyze.” The tool will give you a report with recommendations for improving your site’s speed.
Once you know what needs to be done to speed up your site, take the necessary steps to make the changes. This could involve optimizing images, minifying code, or reducing the number of plugins you’re using. If you need help making these changes, contact a web development company specializing in SEO.
On-page and Content
The title tag is one of the most important on-page SEO factors. It tells both users and search engines what your page is about.
If you have duplicate, missing, or truncated title tags, it can negatively impact your SEO. In this article, we’ll show you how to fix duplicate, missing, and truncated title tags.
What Are Title Tags?
The title tag is an HTML element that specifies the title of a web page. The title tag is displayed in the browser’s tab and is also used by search engines to understand what a page is about.
Title tags are typically 60 characters or less, including spaces. If your title tag is too long, it will be truncated by Google. This can hurt your click-through rate (CTR) because users will only see a portion of your title tag.
It’s important to have unique title tags on each of your pages. If you have duplicates, it can confuse both users and search engines about what your page is about. This can hurt your CTR and SEO.
Missing or empty title tags are also a problem. If a page doesn’t have a title tag, search engines won’t know what the page is about. This can hurt your CTR and SEO.
How to Fix Duplicate Title Tags
The first step is to find out if you have any duplicate title tags on your website. You can do this using a tool like Screaming Frog or DeepCrawl. These tools will crawl your website and find all the pages with duplicates titles tags.
Once you know which pages have duplicate titles, you’ll need to fix them. The best way to do this is to edit the title tag on each page and make it unique. Remember to keep your titles under 60 characters so they don’t get truncated by Google!
If you’re using WordPress, you can install the Yoast SEO plugin to help with this process. Yoast will automatically generate unique titles for each of your pages based on their content.
Find and fix duplicate or missing meta descriptions
It’s important to have unique and accurate meta descriptions for each page on your website. Meta descriptions are the brief summaries that appear underneath your page’s title in the search results. They give potential visitors an idea of what your page is about and can influence whether or not someone clicks through to your site.
If you have duplicate or missing meta descriptions, it can be helpful to use a crawler tool like Screaming Frog to identify them. Once you’ve found the pages with duplicate or missing descriptions, you can either fix them or remove them altogether. If you decide to remove them, be sure to 301 redirect the pages to improve your website’s SEO.
It’s important to have only one H1 tag on each page of your website. Otherwise, search engines may think you’re trying to stuff keywords, and that can hurt your ranking. Use a tool like Screaming Frog to check for multiple H1 tags on your website, then edit your pages to fix the problem.
Off-Page SEO
Off-page SEO refers to the techniques that can be used to improve the ranking of a website on search engine results pages (SERPs). It is a part of the larger umbrella of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It is important to note that off-page SEO cannot be controlled by the website owner, as it happens outside of the website.
Analyze your competitor’s link profile
An in-depth analysis of your competitor’s link profile will give you insights into their backlink strategy, and allow you to find link building opportunities.
When analyzing your competitor’s link profile, look for the following:
-Number of backlinks
-Domain Authority of linking sites
-Anchor text used
-Nofollow vs. follow links
-Link placement (e.g., footer vs. body)
By understanding your competitor’s link profile, you can develop a better link building strategy for your own website.
Conduct a link intersect analysis
A link intersect analysis is a great way to find out which websites are linking to multiple competitors, but not to you.
To conduct a link intersect analysis:
First, make a list of your top 10 competitors.
Next, use a tool like BuzzSumo or Majestic SEO to find the websites that are linking to your competitors.
Finally, take a look at each website that is linking to your competitor and see if they are also linking to you. If they’re not, reach out and try to get a link!
Target your competitors’ broken backlinks
One way to do this is to find your competitor’s broken backlinks. You can do this by using a tool like Ahrefs.
Once you have a list of your competitor’s broken backlinks, you can reach out to the websites that are linking to them and let them know that their link is broken. You can then ask them to link to your website instead.
This is a great way to get high-quality backlinks because you’re targeting websites that are already linking to your competitor. This means that they’re likely to be interested in linking to your website as well.
