Who’s Left in the NFL Playoffs?
Contents
As we enter the final weeks of the NFL season, only four teams are left standing in the hunt for the Lombardi Trophy. Who’s left in the playoffs?
The NFL Playoffs
The National Football League (NFL) playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the regular season to determine the NFL champion. Six teams from each of the league’s two conferences qualify for the playoffs based on regular-season records. The four division winners in each conference (the first-place teams in the four divisions) are seeded 1 through 4 based on their overall won-lost-tied record, and the two wild-card teams are seeded 5 and 6.
The Wild Card Round
In the NFL, the Wild Card Round is the name given to the first round of the playoffs. In this round, the four teams with the best record from each conference who did not win their division play each other. The winners of these four games then advance to the next round, which is called the Divisional Round.
The Divisional Round
The NFL playoffs are down to the divisional round, with only eight teams remaining in the race for the Lombardi Trophy. The first round of the playoffs featured some upsets, including the Houston Texans defeating the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks defeating the Philadelphia Eagles.
The divisional round features some intriguing matchups, including a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship Game between the Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Cowboys will also look to continue their winning ways when they take on the Los Angeles Rams.
Here’s a look at the matchups for this weekend’s games:
AFC Divisional Round
-Houston Texans vs. Kansas City Chiefs
-New England Patriots vs. Los Angeles Chargers
NFC Divisional Round
-Los Angeles Rams vs. Dallas Cowboys
-New Orleans Saints vs. Philadelphia Eagles
The Conference Championships
The Conference Championships are the penultimate round of the NFL playoffs. The AFC and NFC champions will face off in the Super Bowl.
In the AFC, the top-seeded Kansas City Chiefs will host the second-seeded New England Patriots. The Chiefs are coming off a bye week, while the Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Chargers in the Divisional Round.
In the NFC, the top-seeded New Orleans Saints will host the second-seeded Los Angeles Rams. The Saints are coming off a hard-fought victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, while the Rams defeated the Dallas Cowboys in their divisional matchup.
Who’s Left?
As the NFL regular season comes to a close, only four teams remain in the running for the Lombardi Trophy. The New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints, and Kansas City Chiefs all have a chance to win it all. Let’s take a look at each team’s chances.
The AFC
In the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots have already clinched their respective divisions, and the Houston Texans have clinched a playoff berth. That leaves four teams vying for the two Wild Card spots: the Los Angeles Chargers, the Baltimore Ravens, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Chargers currently hold the first Wild Card spot with a 10-3 record. They are closely followed by the Ravens at 9-6, and then by the Colts and Steelers at 8-6. Of these four teams, only the Ravens have already clinched a playoff berth; they will clinch with a win or tie against the Browns in Week 17, or with a loss or tie by either the Colts or Steelers.
The final spot will come down to either the Colts or Steelers. The Colts will clinch with a win against the Titans in Week 17, or with a loss or tie by either Ravens OR Chargers in Week 17. The Steelers will clinch with a win against Cincinnati in Week 17 AND either an Indianapolis loss OR a Baltimore/Los Angeles Chargers tie in Week 17.
The NFC
The National Football Conference (NFC) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL), the highest professional level of American football in the world. This conference and its counterpart, the American Football Conference (AFC), currently contain 16 teams each, making up a total of 32 teams in the NFL.
In the NFL, the NFC is considered to be the more prestigious of the two conferences, due largely to the fact that it has produced more Super Bowl champions than its AFC counterpart. As such, NFC teams tend to be considered stronger and more talented than their AFC counterparts.
The current NFC champions are the Philadelphia Eagles, who defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. The Eagles are also the defending NFC East champions.
What to Expect
The NFL Playoffs are in full swing and there are only four teams left. The Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Green Bay Packers. All four teams have a chance to win it all, but who will come out on top?
The AFC
The AFC is down to its final four teams: the Baltimore Ravens, the Buffalo Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Tennessee Titans.
These four teams will be competing for a spot in the Super Bowl, with the Ravens and Titans squaring off in the first AFC semifinal game on Saturday, January 11th at 1:05 pm EST, and the Chiefs and Bills playing in the second AFC semifinal game on Sunday, January 12th at 3:40 pm EST.
The winners of these two games will then advance to the AFC Championship game, which will be played on Sunday, January 19th at 3:00 pm EST.
The NFC
In the NFC, the Green Bay Packers are the only team that has already clinched a spot in the playoffs. They will most likely be the number one seed. The Seattle Seahawks are in good position to get the number two seed. The New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys are fighting for the last spot in the playoffs.
The NFC is wide open this year. A lot of teams have a chance to make a run at the Super Bowl.
