What Is The Best NFL Team?
Contents
We all have our favorite NFL teams, but what is the best team out there? Some people may argue that the New England Patriots are the best, while others may say that the Pittsburgh Steelers are superior. Who is really the best?
The New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston region. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.
The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in the 1970 merger of the two leagues. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots played their home games at Foxboro Stadium from 1971 to 2001, then moved to Gillette Stadium at the start of 2002 season.
The Patriots have appeared in ten Super Bowls since 2001, winning seven of them. They are tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos for most Super Bowl wins by any franchise, and hold an NFL record for most Super Bowl appearances by any franchise with eleven. As of 2017 they are also one season away from tying Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers for most appearances in a row with eight consecutive appearances (Cowboys: 1970–79; 49ers: 1982–90).
The Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Steelers compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) North division. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the oldest franchise in the AFC.
In contrast to their status as perennial also-rans in the pre-merger NFL, where they were overshadowed by the more successful Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears, the Steelers of the post-merger era are one of the most successful NFL franchises. Since the 1970 AFL–NFL merger, they have qualified for the NFL playoffs 27 times, winning their division 13 times and making two Super Bowl appearances, winning both times. The team plays its home games at Heinz Field on Pittsburgh’s North Side in May 2018, which also hosts events for soccer teams including Major League Soccer’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC and National Women’s Soccer League’s Pittsburgh Passion.
Owner Art Rooney Sr. founded the team in 1933, and had won three NFL championships by 1971. Under Rooney ownership since 1964, there has been considerable success since then: nine conference championships (1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1995, 1996, 2005, 2008), 17 divisional championships (1972–73 AFC Central titles; 1974–75 AFC Central division titles; 1976–77 AFC Central titles; 1978–79 AFC Championship Game appearances; 1983 AFC Championship Game appearances; 1984 AFC Championship Game appearances; 1989 AFC Championship Game appearances; 1992 Wild Card berths; 1993 Divisional Playoff games; 2002 Divisional Playoff games; 2005 Divisional Playoff games), six league championships (Super Bowls IX , X , XIII , XIV , XL , XLIII ). They are the second most successful team behind New England with an overall record of .571 through 2018
The Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957. The Packers are also the last of the NFL’s original teams to still be owned by its founding family. The Packers have played in their original city longer than any other team in any of North America’s four major professional sports leagues.
The Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team that competes in the National Football League (NFL). They are a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) East division. The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. The team’s national following might best be represented by its NFL record of consecutive sell-outs. The Cowboys’ streak of 190 consecutive sold-out regular and post-season games began in 2002. The franchise has made it to the Super Bowl eight times, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos for second most Super Bowl appearances in history, behind only the New England Patriots’ ten appearances. This has also corresponded to eight NFC championships, most in the NFC. In 2015, according to Forbes Magazine, the Cowboys were estimated to be worth $4 billion, making them the most valuable sports franchise in history.
The Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks are the best NFL team. They have the most Super Bowl wins, the best defense, and the best fans.
