Who Has The Most Touchdown Passes In NFL History?
NFL History
The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league. It was founded in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (APFA) before renaming itself the National Football League for the 1922 season. NFL History will be talking about the touchdown. The touchdown is the most important scoring play in American football.
Founded in 1920
The National Football League (NFL) was founded in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (APFA) before renaming itself the National Football League for the 1922 season. The NFL agreed to merge with the American Football League (AFL) in 1966, and the first Super Bowl was held at the end of that same season; the merger was completed in 1970. Today, the NFL has the highest average attendance (67,591) of any professional sports league in the world and is the most popular sports league in the United States. The Super Bowl is among the biggest club sporting events in the world and individual Super Bowl games account for many of the most watched television programs in American history, all occupying some of Nielsen’s most watched annual sporting events. The NFL’s executive officer is Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Merger with AFL in 1970
Before the 1970 season, the NFL had 16 teams and the AFL had 10. The two leagues had been in existence since 1920 (NFL) and 1960 (AFL), but they did not compete against each other until after the 1966 season, when the NFL agreed to let the AFL to place its two best teams, the Eastern Division champion New York Jets and the Western Division champion Kansas City Chiefs, into a special AFL-NFL World Championship Game. The game was held on January 15, 1967, at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The Chiefs were badly overmatched by the Green Bay Packers of the NFL, who won easily, 35-10.
Following this game, it became obvious that the AFL was far inferior to the NFL, and that something needed to be done in order for there to be any true competition between the two leagues. After several months of negotiations, it was agreed that the AFL would merge with the NFL, with each league contributing five teams to form two conferences (the AFC and NFC). This agreement was officially announced on June 8, 1966.
