Early Life and High School
Will Compton was born on July 16, 1989, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He played football and baseball in high school and was a three-time all-district selection as a linebacker. Compton also competed in track & field, shot put and discus. He did not receive any college football scholarship offers out of high school and instead opted to attend the University of Central Oklahoma, where he played linebacker for the Bronchos.
College Career
Compton originally committed to play football for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. However, he later decommitted and instead chose to play for Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. In his career at Butler Community College, he had 73 tackles and two sacks. After one season at Butler Community College, Compton transferred to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he played linebacker from 2009 to 2012.
NFL Career
Will Compton was signed by the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He played college football at Nebraska.
Compton made his NFL debut on September 9, 2013, against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was active for all 16 games of his rookie season and recorded 33 tackles.
In 2014, Compton played in 15 games with 14 starts and recorded a career-high 84 tackles. In 2015, he started all 16 games and recorded 81 tackles.
Compton was placed on injured reserve on December 19, 2016, after suffering a broken foot in Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Personal Life
Compton was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia. He played linebacker and running back for Alleghany High School in Covington, Virginia, helping lead the Mountaineers to the state championship game as a senior. He also played baseball and was named All-District as a catcher.
