After a blockbuster start to NFL free agency, many top players have already found new homes. But there are still some talented free agents available.
Free Agent quarterbacks
It’s that time of year again where NFL teams are looking to sign free agents to help their team. This year, there are a few big names left on the market. Here are the top free agent quarterbacks that are still available.
Tom Brady
Tom Brady is one of the most successful quarterbacks in NFL history. He has played in 10 Super Bowls, winning seven of them. He is a three-time NFL MVP and a 14-time Pro Bowler. Brady is also the all-time leader in career passing yards and touchdown passes.
Brady became a free agent in 2020 after spending 20 seasons with the New England Patriots. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and led them to a Super Bowl win in his first season with the team.
Brady is currently the only free agent quarterback who has won a Super Bowl.
Drew Brees
Drew Brees is a surefire Hall of Famer, and one of the best quarterbacks of his generation. Brees is also one of the most accurate passers in NFL history, and has thrown for over 5,000 yards in a season six times. He’s also a Super Bowl champion, having led the Saints to victory in Super Bowl XLIV.
Philip Rivers
Rivers is still available as a free agent, and there has been recent speculation that he could retire. The Chargers released him after 16 seasons with the team, during which he made eight Pro Bowls and was named All-Pro twice. Rivers holds several NFL records, including most consecutive starts by a quarterback (250) and most consecutive completions in a game (25).
Free Agent running backs
With Le’Veon Bell and Tevin Coleman off the board, there are still a few good running backs left in the free agency pool. Some of the names that come to mind are Mark Ingram, Adrian Peterson, and Lamar Miller. While all three of these players are over 30, they all still have a lot to offer to an NFL team.
Melvin Gordon
Melvin Gordon is a free agent running back who is currently unsigned. He played college football at the University of Wisconsin, and was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
In his NFL career, Gordon has been selected to two Pro Bowls and has led the league in touchdowns once. He was also named an All-Pro in 2016.
Devonta Freeman
Devonta Freeman is a free agent running back who played for the Atlanta Falcons from 2014 to 2017. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Falcons, and he played college football at Florida State University.
Freeman was a Pro Bowl selection in 2015 and 2016, and he was named First-Team All-Pro in 2016. He has career rushing totals of 4,096 yards and 28 touchdowns, and he also has 1,056 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns.
Jordan Howard
Jordan Howard is a free agent running back who is currently unsigned. Howard was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played college football at Indiana.
Howard had a successful rookie season, rushing for 1,313 yards and six touchdowns. He was named to the NFL All-Rookie team. Howard’s production dipped in his second season, but he still managed to rush for over 900 yards and nine touchdowns.
In 2018, Howard’s production dipped again, as he rushed for only 935 yards and nine touchdowns. He was also used less as a receiver, catching only 20 passes for 145 yards. After the 2018 season, the Bears decided not to re-sign Howard, making him a free agent.
Howard has been linked to several teams since becoming a free agent, but as of yet, he has not signed with any team. It is unclear what his future holds in the NFL.
Free Agent wide receivers
After an eventful offseason, most of the prominent free agents have found new homes. A few notable names remain on the market, including some talented wide receivers. This article will take a look at the best free agent wide receivers available.
Amari Cooper
Amari Cooper is a former first-round pick of the Raiders who is just 26 years old. He’s already had two 1,000-yard seasons and is a very good route runner. He should have plenty of suitors on the open market.
A.J. Green
The 31-year old had a bit of a down year in 2019, only catching 46 balls for 694 yards and six touchdowns in nine games. Green has dealt with injuries throughout his career, including last season. He missed the final seven games of the year with an ankle injury.
When healthy, Green is one of the best wideouts in the league. He’s a big-bodied receiver (6-4, 210 pounds) with great hands and he can go up and get the ball. He’s not going to blow by many defenders, but he doesn’t need to. He’s a physical receiver who can create separation with his body.
Green would be a great addition for any team looking for a No. 2 receiver. He could step in and be a WR1 for some teams, but his age and injury history make him more suited for a No. 2 role at this point in his career.
Emmanuel Sanders
Emmanuel Niamijah Sanders (born March 17, 1988) is an American football wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at SMU, and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
Free Agent tight ends
The NFL’s free-agent market is loaded with top-end talent at the wide receiver position, but there are a few quality options remaining at tight end as well. Players like Jason Witten, Delanie Walker, and Charles Clay have yet to find new homes, and there are a few other talented tight ends who remain unsigned as well. Let’s take a look at some of the best free-agent tight ends still available.
Austin Hooper
Austin Hooper is a free agent tight end who is currently unsigned. He played college football at Stanford, and was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Hooper has been a key player for the Falcons over the last few years, and was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2019. He has also been named an All-Pro twice, in 2018 and 2019.
Hooper is one of the best tight ends in the NFL, and will be a hot commodity on the free agent market this offseason.
Eric Ebron
The former first-round pick of the Detroit Lions, Eric Ebron was released by the club after four seasons. In that time, he caught 186 passes for 2,070 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also had a rushes for two yards and a score. Ebron is only 26 years old, so he should have plenty of good football left in him.
Hunter Henry
Hunter Henry is one of the best tight ends in the NFL, and he is a free agent this offseason. There are several teams that could use his services, but it is unclear where he will end up.
