The NFL season is in full swing and we’re already seeing some surprise contenders for the Superbowl. But which NFL team hasn’t won a Superbowl?

The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The Super Bowl is the biggest and most important American annual professional championship game of the NFL. As of 2020, there have been 54 Super Bowls, in which 24 different teams have won. Which NFL team hasn’t won a Superbowl?

The Teams

There are a total of twelve NFL teams who have never won a Super Bowl. Those teams are the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Tennessee Titans.

Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are a professional American football franchise based in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Cardinals compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. The Cardinals were founded as the Morgan Athletic Club in 1898, and are the oldest continuously run professional football team in the United States. The Cardinals play their home games at State Farm Stadium, which opened in 2006 and is located in Glendale, Arizona. Since the franchise’s founding 1900, the team has won two NFL championships, both while it was based in Chicago.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit, Michigan. They are members of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL), and play their home games at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit. The team has not won a Super Bowl as of 2019, but they have won four NFL Championships (1935, 1952, 1953, and 1957).

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are a professional football team based in Houston, Texas. They are members of the South Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Texans joined the NFL in 2002 as an expansion team after Houston’s previous franchise, the Houston Oilers, relocated to Nashville, Tennessee where they are now the Tennessee Titans. The team’s majority owner is Bob McNair. The team plays its home games at NRG Stadium.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have never won a Super Bowl in their history. The franchise was founded in 1993, and they have only made it to the playoffs eight times in their 25-year history. They have never made it to the Super Bowl, and their only conference championship came in 1999.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are a professional American football team based in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team that compete in the National Football League (NFL). The Rams franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams in the short-lived second American Football League (AFL) before joining the NFL the next year. In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles. The Rams franchise remained in the metro area until 1994, when they moved to St. Louis, Missouri. The Rams franchise returned to Los Angeles in 2016. Through 2017, the Rams have appeared in 15 NFL playoffs games, winning nine of them.. They played in Super Bowl XXXVI and Super Bowl LIII, losing both games.

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Vikings joined the National Football League (NFL) as an expansion team in 1960, and first took the field for the 1961 season. The team competes in the National Football Conference (NFC) North division.
The Vikings have played in four Super Bowls: IX (1974), VIII (1975), XI (1977), and XIV (1980), losing all four. As of 2020, they have appeared in the NFC Championship Game 20 times, and made it to the Super Bowl eight times.
The team has played in more conference championship games (27) without winning than any other team in NFL history.
They are also one of only five teams to lose four consecutive Super Bowls. The other teams who have done so are the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. Founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966, the Saints began play in Tulane Stadium in 1967. The name “Saints” is an allusion to November 1 being All Saints Day in the Catholic faith.[9][10]

Seattle Seahawks

While the Seahawks have been around since 1976, they haven’t won a Super Bowl. In fact, they’ve only made it to the big game once, in 2005. They lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-10.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a professional American football franchise based in Tampa, Florida. The Buccaneers currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member team of the National Football Conference (NFC) South division. Along with the Seattle Seahawks, the team joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team. The Bucs played their first season in the American Football Conference (AFC) West division as part of an agreement between the two newly founded franchises and the then-existing NFL teams that were members of that division. After one season in that conference, the team switched conferences with Seattle and became a member of the NFC Central, where it spent 18 seasons. Meanwhile, since its first season Tampa Bay has won six division championships – one while it was members of each of three different divisions – along with one conference championship and one Super Bowl victory during its Super Bowl XXXVII championship season of 2002.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are a professional American football team based in Nashville, Tennessee. The Titans compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. Previously known as the Houston Oilers, the team began play in 1960 in Houston, Texas, as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). The Oilers won the first two AFL Championships before joining the NFL as part of the AFL–NFL merger in 1970.
