Who Made the Playoffs in the NFL?

It’s that time of year again! The NFL playoffs are upon us. Here’s a look at who made the playoffs and what to expect.

AFC

The AFC playoff race was one of the most interesting in recent memory. The Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills both had great seasons and ended up as the top two seeds in the conference. The New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tennessee Titans all battled for the final Wild Card spot. In the end, the Titans came out on top and punched their ticket to the playoffs.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The team plays its home games at M&T Bank Stadium and is headquartered in Owings Mills.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area. The Bills compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays their home games at New Era Field in Orchard Park, New York. The Bills are the only NFL team that plays its home games in the state of New York. The Bills conduct summer training camp at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, New York, an affluent suburb of Rochester.

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans clinched the AFC South for the fourth consecutive season and will host a playoff game for the third time in that span. The Texans are coming off back-to-back 9-7 seasons in which they lost in the wild-card round.

Kansas City Chiefs

As the AFC’s No. 1 seed, the Kansas City Chiefs have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. They will host the lowest remaining seed in the divisional round. The Chiefs clinched the AFC West title for the sixth consecutive season and earned a first-round bye with a 10-6 record.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is 22 miles (35 km) southwest of downtown Boston.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Steelers compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) North division. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the oldest franchise in the AFC.

In contrast with their status as perennial also-rans in the pre-merger NFL, where they were mostly overshadowed by the more successful Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers and New York Giants, the Steelers of the post-merger era are one of the most successful NFL franchises. Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are a professional American football team based in Nashville, Tennessee. The Titans compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. Previously known as the Houston Oilers, the team was founded in 1960 and played in Houston through the 1996 season.

NFC

The National Football Conference (NFC) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL). This conference is made up of 16 teams, which are divided into 4 divisions. The teams that have made the playoffs in the NFC are the Dallas Cowboys, the Green Bay Packers, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Cowboys compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) East division

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957.

The Packers are the last of the “small town teams” which were common in the NFL during the league’s early days of 1920–1930. Founded in city of Green Bay, the franchise traces its lineage to other semi-professional teams which were common in that era. Between 1919 and 1920, the Packers competed against other semi-pro clubs from around Wisconsin and Michigan until they joined the American Professional Football Association (now NFL) in 1921. Although Green Bay is by far the smallest major league professional sports market in North America, Forbes ranked the Packers as being worth US$1.02 billion as of 2016, making them also96the 27th richest sports franchise globally.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team that compete in the National Football League (NFL). They are a member of the National Football Conference (NFC) West division. The Rams franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams in the short-lived second American Football League (AFL) before joining the NFL the next year. In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles. The Rams franchise remained in the metro area until 1994, when they moved to Anaheim. The team then played in Anaheim for 22 years, before returning to Los Angeles following the 2016 season.

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They are members of the North Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) and play their home games at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis. The Vikings joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960, and first took the field for the 1961 season. The team competes in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The team was founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966. The Saints began play in Tulane Stadium in 1967.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers won the NFC West divisional title in 2019, their first division title since 2012. They clinched the division with a 48-22 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 16 and finished the season with a 13-3 record, their best since 1997. The 49ers earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs, giving them a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. They defeated the Minnesota Vikings 27-10 in the divisional round and then beat the Green Bay Packers 37-20 in the NFC Championship Game to reach Super Bowl LIV, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 31-20.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are a professional American football franchise based in Seattle, Washington. The Seahawks compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. They joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team, along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Seahawks three divisional titles (2004, 2005, 2016) and appearance in Super Bowl XLVIII. As per NFC Playoffs, Seattle Seahawks qualified for Wild Card this year.

The Seahawks are coached by Pete Carroll. Since 2002, they have played their home games at CenturyLink Field (formerly Qwest Field), located south of downtown Seattle. They previously played home games in the Kingdome (1976–1999) and Husky Stadium (1994, 2000–2001). Seahawks fans have been referred to collectively as the “12th Man”, “12th Fan”, or “12s”. Largent, Jones, and Easley have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame primarily or wholly for their accomplishments as Seahawks.
