Does Los Angeles Have Two Nfl Teams?

Los Angeles is home to two NFL teams: the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers. Both teams play their home games at the Coliseum in Los Angeles.

Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team that play in the National Football League (NFL). They are based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Rams franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams in the short-lived second American Football League before joining the NFL the next year. In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles. The Rams franchise remained in the metro area until 1994, when they moved to St. Louis. The Rams franchise returned to Los Angeles in 2016.

History

In 1946, the NFL awarded the franchise to Cleveland businessman Daniel Reeves, who then moved the team to Los Angeles. The Rams were the first NFL team in the West Coast. Reeves originally wanted to call his team the “Los Angeles Rams,” but was unable because there was already a major league baseball team with that name. He eventually compromised by calling it the “Cleveland Rams.”

The Rams played their first season in Los Angeles in 1946, and they were an instant success. The team played its home games at Memorial Coliseum, and its fans were passionate about their new team. In just their second season, the Rams made it all the way to the NFL Championship game, where they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Rams remained a strong team throughout the 1950s, making it to five more championship games and winning two of them. They were led by stars like quarterback Bob Waterfield and defensive back Dick “Night Train” Lane. In 1951, Lane set an NFL record for most interceptions in a season with 14, a record that stands to this day.

The 1960s were not as kind to the Rams, as they only made it to one championship game and failed to win it. The team struggled throughout most of the decade and had only two winning seasons.

In 1979, disaster struck when half of Memorial Coliseum was destroyed by fire during a game against the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams were forced to finish out the season playing their home games at Anaheim Stadium, and they never returned to Los Angeles full-time again.

In 1995, after years of poor performance on-and-off field by owner Georgia Frontiere’s husband Carroll Rosenbloom (who died in 1979), she took complete control over operations and movedthe franchise from Anaheim Stadium backto her hometownof St Louis after successful negotiations with then-St Louis mayor Vincent C Shelley II for a new domed stadium on 93acre of prime Downtown real estate along side Interstate 64 which is now know as lumiere place casino complex . After 23 seasons in St Louis , Including 5 NFC West division championships(1999-2001 , 2003&2004)&Super BowlXXXVI victory over Tennessee Titans 19–17 , Owner eil Kroenke decided move back home to los angeles .

Move to Los Angeles

In 2016, the Rams moved back to Los Angeles after 21 seasons in St. Louis, Missouri. The team’s return to California was approved unanimously by NFL owners on January 12, 2016. The franchise became the first sports team to relocate from St. Louis since the Cardinals football team moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1988.

The Rams began play in 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio, moved to Los Angeles in 1946, and then moved again to St. Louis in 1995. The team has won three NFL championships (1951, 1999, and 2018) and is the only one to win championships representing three different cities (Cleveland, Los Angeles, and St. Louis).

Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are a professional American football team based in the Greater Los Angeles Area. The Chargers compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference West division. The team was founded on August 14, 1959, and began play on September 10, 1960, as a charter member of the American Football League.

History

The Chargers began as the Los Angeles Chargers of the American Football League (AFL) in 1960. The team’s owner, Barron Hilton, was the son of Conrad Hilton, who had founded the Hilton Hotels chain. The Chargers initially considered playing at the Rose Bowl, but instead signed a lease to play at the Los Angeles Coliseum. When the AFL expanded to include more teams in 1966, the Chargers were moved to San Diego.

Move to Los Angeles

In 2016, the Chargers announced their decision to move to Los Angeles. The team played their final season in San Diego in 2017, and moved to Los Angeles in 2018. The Chargers play their home games at StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Comparison

The Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers are both professional American football teams in Los Angeles, California. The Rams play in the National Football League (NFL), while the Chargers play in the American Football Conference (AFC) of the NFL. Both teams compete in the same stadium, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Fanbase

When it comes to comparing NFL teams, the two most important factors are usually the quality of the team and the size of their fanbase. In terms of quality, the Los Angeles Rams are currently one of the best teams in the league, while the Los Angeles Chargers are near the bottom. In terms of fanbase, however, there is no clear winner.

The Rams have been in Los Angeles longer and have a more established fanbase. However, they moved to Los Angeles from St. Louis in 2016 and many fans in St. Louis still view them as their team. The Chargers, on the other hand, moved to Los Angeles from San Diego in 2017 and have thus far struggled to gain a significant following.

It is difficult to say which team has more fans in Los Angeles. The Rams probably have a larger overall fanbase, but the Chargers may have more fans in Los Angeles County specifically.

Location

The Rams were originally based in Cleveland, but moved to Los Angeles in 1946. The team played its home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum until 1979, when it moved to Anaheim Stadium in Orange County. In 2016, the Rams moved again, this time to Inglewood, where they will play their home games at the new SoFi Stadium.

The Chargers were originally based in San Diego, but moved to Los Angeles in 2017. The team plays its home games at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.
