What’s the Best NFL Football Team?
Contents
It’s a question that has been debated for years: what’s the best NFL football team? Some say the Patriots are the best, while others argue for the Packers or the Seahawks. Who do you think is the best?
The Best NFL Football Teams
There are a few teams that stand out above the rest in the NFL. The New England Patriots, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Seattle Seahawks have all had recent success. These teams have all won Super Bowls in the past few years and have been to the playoffs multiple times.
The New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.
The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in 1970 as part of the AFL–NFL merger. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots played their home games at Foxboro Stadium from 1971 to 2001, then moved to Gillette Stadium at the start of 2002 season. Between 2002 and 2017, welcoming an average crowd of 68,436 fans per game, the Patriots sold out every home game—a total of 354 games (310 regular season and 44 playoff games)—since moving to Gillette Stadium.
The Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Steelers compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) North division. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the oldest franchise in the AFC.
In contrast with their status as perennial Super Bowl contenders, the Steelers have never once played in a Super Bowl game while in their current incarnation. However, they are tied with the New England Patriots for the most conference championship game appearances (16), and have more appearances in Conference Championship games than any other AFC or NFC team. They have played in ten AFL/NFL Championship Games, winning eight of them. The club has also won six Super Bowl titles, which is second only to the Patriots’ record eleven championships.
The Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957.
The Packers are the last of the “small town teams” which were common in the NFL during the league’s early days of 1920–1949. Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, the franchise traces its lineage to other semi-pro teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. Between 1919 and 1920, under Lambeau’s leadership and once again after Calhoun’s death, Michael Hirschboeck, William Lutz and Lambeau were co-head coaches of the Packers. In 1921, Hirschboeck left lambeau field leaving Lutz as head coach for one season before L ambeau took over coaching duties himself for seven seasons until 1949.
In addition to a number of league championships, Hall of Fame inductees and Pro Football Hall of Famers, the Packers have had 19 members who have served as president or general manager of other NFL franchises: Johnujagiello (Buffalo Bills), Mike Reinfeldt (Tennessee Titans), Ron Wolf (Oakland Raiders and New York Jets), Ted Thompson (Atlanta Falcons), John Schneider (Seattle Seahawks), Mike Holmgren (Seattle Seahawks), Jack Plummer (Arizona Cardinals), Tom controls Bear Bryant for coaching Dallas Cowboys football team for eight seasons between 1960 to 1972 Sherman(Houston Texans), Kevin Shelton (Indianapolis Colts), Reggie McKenzie(Oakland Raiders), Alonzo Highsmith(Miami Dolphins) , John Dorsey(Kansas City Chiefs ), Eliot Wolf(Cleveland Browns)and Brian Gutekunst( Green Bay Packers).
The Worst NFL Football Teams
The Buffalo Bills, the Cleveland Browns, and the Detroit Lions are widely considered to be the three worst teams in the NFL. The Bills haven’t made the playoffs since 1999, the Browns haven’t made the playoffs since 2002, and the Lions haven’t made the playoffs since 1997. All three teams have had a number of high draft picks in recent years, but they have yet to find the formula for success.
The Cleveland Browns
The Browns have been the laughing stock of the NFL for years. They have had just one winning season since 2007 and haven’t made the playoffs since 2002. In 2016, they went 1-15, tying the 2008 Detroit Lions for the worst record in NFL history.
The Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are widely considered to be one of the worst NFL football teams. They have a long history of losing, dating back to their days as the Portsmouth Spartans. The Lions have only won one NFL Championship, in 1957, and they haven’t made it to the Super Bowl since. In recent years, the Lions have been especially bad, going 0-16 in 2008 and finishing with a record of 1-15 in 2009.
The New York Jets
The New York Jets are a professional American football team located in the New York metropolitan area. The Jets compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team is headquartered in Florham Park, New Jersey. In a unique arrangement for the league, the Jets share MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey with the New York Giants. The franchise is legally and corporately registered as New York Jets, LLC.
The team was founded in 1959 as the Titans of New York, an original member of the American Football League (AFL); later, the franchise joined the NFL in the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team began to play their home games at Shea Stadium in 1964 and acquired their current name on May 7, 1963. The Jets advanced to the AFC Championship Game for the first time on January 12, 1969, but lost to the Oakland Raiders by a score of 32–14. Since 1968, they have appeared in only two playoff games. However, they have never returned to the Super Bowl, making them one of three NFL teams to win their lone Super Bowl appearance (the others being the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers). Besides winning their lone Super Bowl appearance following the 1968 season with verteran head coach Weeb Ewbank and quarterback Joe Namath heping lead them there with an upset victory over Don Shula’s Colts famously known as “Broadway Joe” and “The Guarantee”, along with strong defense which became know as “The Sack Exchange” featuring All-Pro defensive end Mark Gastineau along with sack leader Abdul Salaam leading them there with 52 sacks that year which was an NFL record at that time that has since been broken , linebackers Greg Butler and Al Atkinson ,and safety Jim Hudson ,the team has enjoyed moderate success including making it back to AFC Championship game following season led by second year head coach Walt Michaels ,who took over for Weeb Ewbank after being fired following Super Bowl III , but lost title game to eventual Super BowlVI champions Miami Dolphins led by rookie head coach Don Shula who went on undefeated season that year becoming only NFL team do so going 17–0 defeating Dallas Cowboys 24–3 Led by Larry Csonka who rushed for 145 yards solidifying himself as one one best running backs in league history along Bob Griese at quarterback ,and future Hall of Fame defensive tackle Manny Fernandez leading defense that day shutting down Craig Morton and company as only managed 3 points throughout whole game .
