Introduction
Do you want to win your fantasy baseball league this year? It’s not going to be easy, but if you make sure to add these must-have players to your team, you’ll be giving yourself a great chance at success. From top-tier starting pitchers to versatile outfielders, here are the guys you need on your squad if you want to compete for a fantasy baseball championship in 2020.
Mike Trout- Los Angeles Angels
OF Mike Trout Los Angeles Angels – One of the best players in baseball, if not the best. You want him on your team. Period.
Mookie Betts- Los Angeles Dodgers
Mookie Betts was acquired by the Dodgers in a trade with the Red Sox during the offseason and is already making an impact in Los Angeles. The former AL MVP is hitting .333/.438/.667 with three home runs, four RBI, and four runs scored in six games. He’s also stolen two bases. Betts is off to a hot start and should be owned in all fantasy leagues.
Gerrit Cole- New York Yankees
Gerrit Cole is a must-add player if he is available in your league. Cole is an elite pitcher and will help your team in multiple ways. He will give you quality innings, rack up strikeouts, and have a very low ERA and WHIP. Additionally, Cole pitching for the Yankees will give him plenty of opportunities to pick up wins.
Jacob deGrom- New York Mets
Mets RHP Jacob deGrom has been a consistent fantasy ace for years now, and 2019 was no different. He finished the season with a 2.43 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 255 strikeouts in 204 innings pitched, and he did all of that while averaging close to a strikeout per inning.
Fernando Tatis Jr.- San Diego Padres
Fernando Tatis Jr. is a must-add for your fantasy baseball team. He is only 20 years old and is already one of the best shortstops in baseball. In 77 games last season, he hit .317 with 22 home runs, 53 RBIs, 16 stolen bases, and an OPS of .963. He is a five-tool player that can do it all. He will likely be a first-round pick in most fantasy drafts this year.
Ronald Acuna Jr.- Atlanta Braves
Ronald Acuna Jr. is a must-add for any fantasy baseball team. The young outfielder is one of the most exciting players in the game and has the potential to be a fantasy superstar. Acuna is off to a great start this season, hitting .288 with 9 home runs and 28 RBI. He also has 5 stolen bases and is currently the 11th ranked fantasy outfielder. If you need help in any of these categories, Acuna is your guy.
Juan Soto- Washington Nationals
One player who is a must-add in all fantasy baseball leagues is Juan Soto of the Washington Nationals. The 20-year-old left fielder is batting .316/.414/.564 with 10 home runs, 32 RBIs and four stolen bases in 50 games this season. He has also drawn more walks (34) than strikeouts (28), which is impressive for a young player. Soto has been particularly hot lately, batting .333 with five home runs and 17 RBIs in his last 20 games. He is also 11-for-25 (.440) with two home runs and seven RBIs against left-handed pitchers this season, so he can be added as a platoon player in deeper leagues.
Christian Yelich- Milwaukee Brewers
Former National League MVP and one of the top all-around players in baseball, Yelich is a player you want on your team. The Milwaukee Brewers star has a career .292 batting average with 150 home runs, 377 RBIs and 103 stolen bases. He’s also a two-time Gold Glove winner. Yelich will help your team in all offensive categories and is a must-add for any fantasy baseball league.
Shane Bieber- Cleveland Indians
Cleveland Indians’ Shane Bieber is a must-add player for your fantasy baseball league. The young starting pitcher has shown great potential in his short time in the MLB, and he looks to be a key player on the Indians’ pitching staff for years to come. Bieber has a strong fastball and an impressive array of secondary pitches, which he uses to keep hitters off-balance. He also has excellent control, which has resulted in him posting a low ERA and WHIP. In addition, Bieber is a strikeout machine, as evidenced by his 14.2 K/9 rate. If you are looking for a young starting pitcher with high upside, Shane Bieber is the perfect player to add to your fantasy baseball team.
