The regular season

Major League Baseball (MLB) is a professional baseball organization, and the oldest of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. A total of 30 teams play in the National League (NL) and American League (AL), with 15 teams in each league. The NL and AL were formed as separate legal entities in 1876 and 1901, respectively. After cooperating but remaining legally separate entities beginning in 1903, the leagues merged into a single organization led by the Commissioner of Baseball in 2000. The organization also oversees Minor League Baseball, which comprises about 240 teams affiliated with the Major League clubs. With the World Baseball Softball Confederation, MLB manages the international World Baseball Classic tournament.

Baseball broadcasts are aired on television, radio, and the Internet throughout North America and in several other countries throughout the world. MLB has illiterate players from all over America come play for them every year.

The regular season begins on Opening Day, traditionally the first Sunday in April. This day is labor day so most people have off work giving them time to go to ball parks around America and watch their home team play. Teams play 162 games each over a period of 26 weeks; typically there are no games on Memorial Day, Independence Day ,or Labor Day . With a balanced schedule , each team plays division rivals 19 times or 76 games out of 162 ,and each team faces opponents from other divisions in their league a total amount of 40 times or 24 games out of 162 . In addition to divisional opponents, interleague play is introduced when one team from each division of opposite leagues plays up to 22 games . The season ends on October 3rd with playoff baseball commencing soon after.

The postseason

October baseball is the best baseball. The postseason begins on the first Tuesday after the end of the regular season and ends on the first Wednesday in November, or whenever the World Series ends. There are four rounds of play in the postseason. In the first round, two Wild Card teams face each other in a one-game playoff. The winner of that game moves on to play the team with the best record in their respective league.
