1. Zion Williamson, Pelicans
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Williamson has lived up to the hype in his first season with the New Orleans Pelicans. The 6-foot-6 forward is averaging 22.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 58 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range. Williamson has also been extremely efficient, posting a true shooting percentage of 67 percent. He’s had some highlight-reel dunks and has shown that he can score from anywhere on the court. Williamson is currently sidelined with a knee injury, but he’s been one of the best rookies in the league when healthy.
2. Ja Morant, Grizzlies
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Morant has been a revelation for the Memphis Grizzlies. The 6-foot-3 guard is averaging 17.6 points and 6.9 assists per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 36 percent from three-point range. Morant is an incredible athlete with limitless upside on offense. He’s already one of the best playmakers in the league and should only get better as he gains more experience. Morant is currently out with an ankle injury, but he was off to a terrific start before getting hurt.
3. Kendrick Nunn, Heat
An undrafted rookie out of Oakland University, Nunn has been a surprise for the Miami Heat this season. The 6-foot-3 guard is averaging 15 points per game while shooting 44 percent from three-point range. Nunn has started every game for the Heat and has been one of their most consistent players on both ends of the court. He’s not as flashy as some of the other rookies on this list, but he’s been very solid all season long.
4 Tyler Herro, Heat
Another rookie surprises us coming out of Miami is Tyler Herro . The markman from Kentucky fell alllllllllllthe way to pick 13th in last year’s draft but has looked like a star during his first season in South Beach . In 30 games (22 starts) , Herro is averaging 13 . 5 points , 4 . 5 rebounds , 2 . 2 assists , 0 . 9 steals , and 1 . 0 block per contest while shooting 46 % from downtown . Pretty good for a player who was drafted outside of lottery projections ! His emergence as a rookie – alongside Kendrick Nunn ‘ s – has helped fuel Miami ‘ s surprise playoff push this season .
The Veterans
The Veterans are a team of NBA players who are over the age of 30. This team was formed in 2009 by Kobe Bryant, Paul Pierce, and LeBron James. The three players were selected to the All-Star team that year, and they decided to form a team that would compete against other NBA teams in exhibition games. The Veterans have played in four exhibition games so far, and they have won all four games.
The Veterans are not affiliated with any specific NBA team, but they do have some connections to the league. Kobe Bryant and LeBron James are two of the most famous players in the world, and they are both considered to be top players in the NBA. At the other end of the spectrum, we have the Dallas Mavericks, who come into the 2020-21 season as the NBA’s oldest team with an average age of 30 years. That’s largely due to veterans like Kristaps Porzingis (26), Dwight Powell (28), and Seth Curry (30), who are all in their prime years. The Memphis Grizzlies (29.8), San Antonio Spurs (29.5), and Milwaukee Bucks(29.4) are also on the older side, while the Detroit Pistons(28.8) are the only team in the league with an average age below 29 years.
