The current leading teams

The Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. The Lakers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Lakers play their home games at Staples Center, an arena shared with the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). The franchise began with the 1947 purchase of a disbanded team, the Detroit Gems of the National Basketball League (NBL). The new team began calling themselves the Minneapolis Lakers in honor of Minnesota’s nickname, “Land of 10,000 Lakes”. They joined the NBA in 1949, when it was formed by merging with rival NBL and Basketball Association of America.
The Lakers won five championships in Minneapolis during their 32 years there before relocating to Los Angeles prior to the 1960–61 season. Led by defenseman Jerry West and head coach Red Auerbach, they remains one of only eight franchises to have never missed the playoffs and won an NBA championship since joining the league. In 2019, Forbes valued them as being worth US$3 billion, making them one of two NBA teams worth more than $3 billion along with their cross-town rivals, Staples Center co-tenants and fellow Pacific Division rivals, the Clippers.
The Milwaukee Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks are currently leading the way in the NBA. They are followed by the Golden State Warriors, who are closely behind them. The Toronto Raptors are in third place, while the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder round out the top five.
The players to watch
If you’re a fan of the NBA, then you’re probably curious to know who is leading the series so far. This article will give you a rundown of the players who are currently leading the pack.
LeBron James
LeBron Raymone James Sr. (/ləˈbrɒn/; born December 30, 1984) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is widely considered to be one of the greatest basketball players in NBA history. James has won four NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards, four NBA Finals MVP Awards, two Olympic gold medals, an NBA Championship, and he twice led the league in scoring.
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo, nicknamed the “Greek Freak,” is a Greek professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is the Bucks’ team captain, and plays power forward and center positions. Standing at 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m), he has earned first-team All-NBA and All-Defensive honors. He is also a five-time NBA All-Star, and led Milwaukee to its first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2001. In 2019, he became the first European player to be named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the NBA.
Early life
Antetokounmpo was born in Athens, Greece, to Nigerian parents Charles and Veronica, who had emigrated to Greece to find work. His father worked as a janitor and his mother as a housekeeper; they never married each other or had any other children. His older brothers Thanasis and Francis were also born in Athens. The three brothers had to fend for themselves on the streets of Sepolia, a rough neighborhood of Athens, from an early age by selling items such as watches and sunglasses. They would often go days without eating because their parents could not afford to buy them food; Giannis has said that he grew up feeling “hungry all the time.” When he was twelve years old, Giannis started playing organized basketball at Filathlitikos B.C.; his coach was Costas Missas, who also coached Greek players Georgios Bartzokas and Nick Galis: “I remember Costas telling me that Giannis had tremendous potential but that we would have to be patient with him because he was very raw,” said Missas in 2013.
