Are WWE Games Backwards Compatible?
Contents
We take a look at whether WWE games are backwards compatible with current-gen consoles.
WWE Games
WWE games are a series of professional wrestling video games based on the American professional wrestling promotion WWE. The series was first published by THQ until 2013, when Take-Two Interactive’s 2K Sports took over. The games are primarily developed by Japanese video game developer Yuke’s.
WWE 2K14
WWE 2K14 is a professional wrestling video game developed by Yuke’s and published by 2K Sports for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the first game published by 2K Sports since Take-Two Interactive gained the license from THQ in a bankruptcy filing. It is the sequel to WWE ’13 and it was succeeded by WWE 2K15. It was released on October 29, 2013 in North America and November 1, 2013 in Europe.
The cover art features Brock Lesnar, who won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam in August 2013. The game’s slogan is “Live the Revolution”. WWE 2K14 is the first game in the series to be officially endorsed by WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin.
WWE 2K15
WWE 2K15 is a professional wrestling video game developed in a collaboration between Yuke’s and Visual Concepts, and published by 2K Sports for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. It is the second game in the WWE 2K series, serving as the sequel to WWE 2K14. It was released on October 28, 2014 in North America and on October 31, 2014 in Europe for last generation consoles only. The game was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 18, 2014 in North America and on November 21, 2014 in Europe.
WWE 2K16
WWE 2K16 is a professional wrestling video game developed in a collaboration between Yuke’s and Visual Concepts, and published by 2K Sports for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. It is the seventeenth game in the WWE game series (fifth under the WWE 2K banner), a sequel to WWE 2K15, and was succeeded by WWE 2K17. It was released worldwide on October 27, 2015.
The game’s story revolves around the player’s created professional wrestler aiming to make their way up to the top of the WWE ranks by working their way through several of WWE’s real-life storylines taking place during 2015–16. Along with standard multiplayer matches, players are able to compete in online matches against other players, as well as participate in online leaderboards.
Xbox One
Yes, all WWE 2K, WWE ’13, WWE 2K14, WWE 2K15, WWE 2K16, WWE 2K17, WWE 2K18, and WWE 2K19 are backwards compatible with the Xbox One. You can play any of these games on your Xbox One console.
Xbox One backwards compatibility
The Xbox One is backward compatible with a select number of Xbox 360 games. These are games that were originally released for the Xbox 360 and can be played on the Xbox One.
Some of the most popular backwards compatible games include:
– “WWE 2K14”
– “Borderlands”
– “Call of Duty: Black Ops”
– “Gears of War 3”
– “Halo: Reach”
– “Skate 3”
Xbox One X
The Xbox One X is a home video game console developed and marketed by Microsoft. Announced in May 2016, it is the successor to the Xbox One and was released on November 7, 2017 in North America, Europe, Australia, and Brazil. The Xbox One X is powered by a custom CPU with 6 teraflops of graphical processing power, making it the most powerful console ever released. It also features 12 GB of GDDR5 memory, an increase over the 8 GB found in its predecessor. The console also features Ultra HD Blu-ray support and HDR10 high-dynamic range video output.
The Xbox One X was designed to be backward compatible with all existing Xbox One software and accessories. All games playable on Xbox One are also playable on the Xbox One X at improved visual fidelity and framerates. Additionally, select games have been specifically patched to take advantage of the console’s increased horsepower. These “Enhanced” games make use of 4k resolution, high dynamic range color rendering, improved texture filtering, and other visual improvements.
PlayStation 4
The PlayStation 4 (simply called PS4) is the latest home video game console from the Japanese company Sony Computer Entertainment. It was released in November 2013 and sells for around $400. As of February 2016, over 36 million PS4 consoles have been sold worldwide.
PlayStation 4 backwards compatibility
Unfortunately, the PlayStation 4 isn’t backwards compatible with any other console. That means you can’t play PS3 games on a PS4, and you can’t play PS2 or original PlayStation games either.
However, there are some ways to get around this. Sony offers a service called PlayStation Now, which lets you stream PlayStation 3 games to your PS4. You can also buy digital copies of certain PlayStation 2 and original PlayStation games from the PlayStation Store, and these will work on your PS4. Finally, if you have a PS4 Pro, some PS2 and original PlayStation games will get a performance boost thanks to the console’s improved hardware.
Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch is a great console for those who enjoy WWE games. However, one question that has been asked frequently is whether or not the Nintendo Switch is backwards compatible. The answer to that question is yes and no.
Nintendo Switch backwards compatibility
The Nintendo Switch is not backwards compatible with any other console, meaning that you can’t play games from the Wii U or earlier on the Switch. However, the Switch does have some limited backwards compatibility features. For example, you can transfer save data from the Wii U to the Switch, and you can use Wii Remote controllers with certain Switch games.
