Introduction
The National Football League (NFL) is the most popular professional American football league. It was founded in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (APFA) before renaming itself the National Football League for the 1922 season. The NFL consists of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the four major North American professional sports leagues, the other being Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the National Hockey League (NHL).
The NFL’s Top Teams
This year’s NFL season is almost over, and there are only a few games left to decide who will make it to the playoffs. The race is tight, and any of the top teams could take the title. Who will come out on top?
The New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.
The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in the 1970 merger of the two leagues. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots played their home games at Foxboro Stadium from 1971 to 2001, then moved to Gillette Stadium at the start of the 2002 season.
The Patriots have appeared in eleven Super Bowls since 1986, winning six of them—an NFL record for most Super Bowl wins by a single franchise. The franchise has since set numerous other records, including most wins in a ten-year period (126, between 2003 and 2012), an undefeated 16-game regular season in 2007,
and the longest winning streak consisting of regular season and postseason games in NFL history (21 games from October 2003 to October 2004).
The Pittsburgh Steelers
This team from Pennsylvania has six Super Bowl wins under their belt, the most of any AFC team. With a rich history that dates back to 1933, the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the most iconic franchises in the NFL. They play their home games at Heinz Field and are currently led by head coach Mike Tomlin. Some of their most notable players include quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, wide receiver Antonio Brown, and linebacker James Harrison.
The Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957.
The Packers are the last of the “small town teams” which were common in the NFL during the league’s early days of 1925 and 1926. Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, the franchise trace their lineage to other semi-professional teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. Between 1919 and 1920, the Packers competed against other semi-pro clubs from around Wisconsin and Michigan, before joining the American Professional Football Association, organised by Ace Parker and Dave Berry in 1920; it was then that they adopted their now-famous name of Packers.
In 1921, the franchise was awarded to Mike Michalske by Lambeau after Michalske showed promising results as a fullback for Lambeau’s team. The Packers have had 46 starting quarterbacks (QB)s in their history, including five who were inducted into either the Pro Football Hall of Fame or Canton Bulldogs Hall of Fame. The most recent Packer QB to be inducted into either Hall is Brett Favre; he was inducted into both Halls in 2016.
The NFL’s Bottom Teams
The Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns are a professional American football team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Browns compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The Browns play their home games at FirstEnergy Stadium, which opened in 1999, with administrative offices and training facilities in Berea, Ohio. The Browns’ official colors are brown, orange, and white. They are unique among the 32 member franchises of the NFL in that they do not have a logo on their helmets.
The franchise was founded in 1945 by businessman Arthur B. McBride and coach Paul Brown as a charter member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). The Browns dominated the AAFC, compiling a 47–4–3 record in the league’s four active seasons and winning its championship in each of them. When the AAFC folded after the 1949 season, the Browns joined the NFL along with three other AAFC teams, the San Francisco 49ers, the original Baltimore Colts, and the Brooklyn Dodgers (now the Los Angeles Rams). In 1950, Browns owner MacBride named Paul Brown head coach and general manager and gave him total control over personnel decisions for disciplined players loyal to Brown.
The team has had some periods of success throughout its history but has never reached or won an NFL championship game. Between 1965 and 1995, they reached the playoffs ten times but did not win another playoff game until 1994 when they defeated New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe for their first division title since 1989 by winning their final seven games of the season. From 1999 to present day they have only reached one playoff game which was an AFC Wild Card Game loss to hated rivals Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 36-33 on January 5th 2003 ending what is considered one of if not thee worst drought(s) in NFL history at an astounding 41 years between winning postseason games making it almost a half century without such success however recently within recent years they have found much more success going 10-6 in 2019 then 11-5 last year(2020) losing to eventual Superbowl champions Kansas City Chiefs 22-17 in Overtime during Wildcard weekend but firing former head coach Freddie Kitchens after one full season at helm going 6-10 tanking near end of 2020 regular season costing themselves chance at playoffs again missing out due to tiebreakers despite having better record than Indianapolis Colts who snuck into final playoff spot that year then this past year(2021) going 11-5 again this time defeating Indianapolis Colts 48-37 during Wildcard weekend earning first playoff win since 1995 despite losing starting quarterback Baker Mayfield early on during game due to concussion then losing star running back Nick Chubb late on during game due to knee injury forcing third string Running back Kareem Hunt to finish out game whom had two total touchdowns one rushing one receiving along withHumphrey catching two touchdowns himself as well coincidentally also playing against former team Ravens whom he used to play for Till leaving for Cleveland via Free Agency prior to 2019 season then this past Sunday against AFC north rival Pittsburgh Steelers whom earlier this year knocked down Marcus Mariota as well causing him to go onto Injured Reserve effectively ruining any chance he had at succeeding while forcing third stringer Ryan Tannehill who was signed off waivers from Houston Texans midway through 2020 season whom led them To AFC South Championship title that year before getting hurt early on against Kansas City chiefs causing Texans To fold like cheap suit effectively missing out On playoffs entire second half of 2020 season forcing them To sign former New England Patriots backup Quarterback Brian Hoyer signing two year deal while also signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick signing One Year deal as well Fitzpatrick playing very well enough convincing Texans organization To re sign him till present day currently playing on 2 Year $30 million dollar deal While carrying team On his back started all 16 regular season games going 4-11 drpping 8 out final 9 games after hot start eventually costing O’Brien his job being relieved Of his Head coaching duties being replaced current Head Coach David Culley currently 0-1 As Head Coach losing AFC wild card game against Buffalo Bills 17 -24 but Texans owners Lovie Smith hires Nick Caserio away from New England Patriots organization making him general manager giving him full power over personnel decisions giving him 6 year deal worth $75 million dollars stockpiling draft picks via trades utilizing draft capital stockpiled getting lions share Plus some landingouston texans huge haul 25 total draft picks 11 within first 2 rounds including number 3 overall pick while also turningAroundLuck’s career After injuries derailed everything post Peyton manning era saddling Luck Shoulder entire weight offensive burden losing several offensive weapons forced Luck miss entire 2017 regular seasoneffectively tankingtexansstatistically worst Offensiveline allowing sack every 14 dropbacks 2016
