On the Rise
The boys’ and girls’ high school basketball regular season is coming to an end, and the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association will soon release its official rankings for the postseason.
The TSSAA uses a computerized Rating Percentage Index to determine postseason seeding for basketball, and the final RPI standings will be released on Feb. 18. The RPI is calculated by giving a team 25 percent credit for its winning percentage, 50 percent credit for its opponents’ winning percentage and 25 percent credit for its opponents’ opponents’ winning percentage.
With that in mind, here is a look at where teams in Middle Tennessee stand heading into the final week of the regular season
Boys’ basketball
1) Ravenwood (24-2) — The Raptors are the only team in Middle Tennessee with just two losses, and they have wins over Brentwood Academy, Ensworth, MBA and CPA. Ravenwood is currently ranked No. 2 in Division I behind only Whitehaven.
2) MBA (21-5) — The Big Red beat Ensworth on Friday Night to take control of first place in District 10-AAA. MBA also has quality wins over CPA, McGavock, Hillsboro and Glencliff.
Falling Teams
There are many factors that can contribute to a team’s ranking, such as wins and losses, strength of schedule, and quality of opponents.
Falling teams are those whose ranking has decreased from the previous week. This could be due to a loss, or a weaker opponent.
New to the Rankings
This week’s new addition to the Tennessee high school basketball rankings is the East Ridge Pioneers, who come in at number 10 in the 5A division.
