What is a Bad Lip Reading?
A Bad Lip Reading is when someone takes footage of someone talking, and then mutes the audio so it looks like they are saying something else. They then add in their own voice acting to make it seem like the person is saying something completely different.
It started out as a series of YouTube videos, but has now expanded to different celebrities and movies.
How did the NFL get involved?
Bad Lip Reading is a YouTube channel created in January 2012 by an anonymous individual who dubs over existing video footage with humorous, nonsensical, or otherwise lip-synced dialogues. In February 2013, the channel uploaded a dubbed video featuring American football players from the National Football League (NFL), which became popular on various social media websites. The channel’s NFL videos were listed among the “Best Sports Highlights” of 2013 by Sports Illustrated.
In September 2013, while the Seattle Seahawks were playing the San Francisco 49ers, Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin posted a Vine video of himself and teammates Chancellor and Sherman singing along to a Bad Lip Reading video during pre-game warmups. The Seahawks’ sideline video was played on the Fox broadcast of the game, and led to increased popularity for the NFL videos.
On January 10, 2014, Bad Lip Reading released its first NFL-related video for the 2013–14 playoffs. It featured players from the AFC and NFC Championship games, as well as Super Bowl XLVIII. In February 2014, another NFL-related video was released for Super Bowl XLVIII.

Mike Tannenbaum, the former general manager of the New York Jets, tweeted that the BLR video of Rex Ryan was “awesome,” and current Jets GM John Idzik retweeted Tannenbaum’s comment.
When asked about the videos, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said they are “amusing” and that the league is “flattered” that people are interested in creating them.
