During his lone season at Chino Hills High School, Ball averaged a triple-double of 27.4 points, 11.3 assists and 11 rebounds per game en route to being named a consensus first-team All-American as well as Naismith Prep Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball USA. He led Chino Hills to an undefeated record and a state championship during his senior year before committing to UCLA on a scholarship deal with adidas. However, he later chose to forgo college after it was revealed that his father had been shopping around for a more lucrative deal for all three of his sons; Lonzo had already signed with Nike subsidiary Brand Jordan while LiAngelo would eventually sign one with Lithuanian club BC Prienai prior to joining LaMelo in Lithuania.
