How to Make a Baseball Balloon Arch

This baseball season make your game day decorations stand out with a show-stopping balloon arch! Follow our simple tutorial to learn how to make your own.

Introduction

A baseball balloon arch is a great way to show your team spirit at a game or tailgating party. It’s easy to make, and you can customize it with your team’s colors and mascot. Here’s how to do it.

First, you’ll need some supplies. You’ll need balloons in your team’s colors, straws or plastic cups, tape, and a balloon pump. You’ll also need a long strip of poster board or cardboard, about 2 feet wide and 6 feet long

To start, tape one end of the poster board to a chair or table. Then, start blowing up the balloons. You’ll want to blow them up to about 8 inches in diameter. Once they’re all blown up, tie them off with knots.

Now it’s time to start building the arch. Take two balloons and tie them together at the knot. Repeat this until you have a chain of Balloon pairs that is as long as you want your arch to be. We recommend an arch that is at least 6 feet long.

Once you have your Balloon chain, drape it over the poster board so that the center of the chain is in the center of the board. Tape the chain in place at both ends.

Now, take your plastic cups or straws and tape them to the back of the poster board at regular intervals. These will be used to hold up the arch once it’s complete. We recommend using one cup or straw every 10 inches or so.

Finally, it’s time to decorate! You can use streamers, tissue paper flowers, or anything else you can think of to give your arch some extra flair. Get creative and have fun!

What You’ll Need

To make a baseball balloon arch you will need the following items:
-A box of black latex balloons
-A box of white latex balloons
-A roll of black ribbon
-A roll of red ribbon
-A hand pump
-A strong piece of string or fishing line
-Balloon weights (optional)
-Scissors

Instructions:
1. Inflate the black and white balloons with the hand pump. If you are using balloon weights, tie the weights to the bottom of each balloon before inflating.
2. Cut a length of black ribbon, approximately 3 feet long. Tie the black ribbon around the neck of one of the black balloons, knotting it securely. Repeat this step with the remaining black balloons. Cut a length of red ribbon, approximately 3 feet long. Tie the red ribbon around the neck of one of the white balloons, knotting it securely. Repeat this step with the remaining white balloons.
3. Once all of your balloons are tied with ribbon, begin attaching them to the piece of string or fishing line. Start by tying one end of the string to a solid object such as a chair or table leg. Then, start threading your balloons onto the string, alternating between black and white as you go. If you are using balloon weights, be sure to thread them onto the string along with your balloons so that your arch will be weighted down and secure. Continue until all of your balloons are attached to the string.
4. Once all of your balloons are in place, carefully lift up the end of your string that is not attached to anything and begin bending it into an arch shape. You can use whatever shape you like for your arch, but a traditional baseball arch is usually curved inwards at both ends so that it resembles an “U” shape when viewed from above. Once you have achieved your desired shape, tie off the end of the string to another solid object such as a chair or table leg so that your arch will remain in place.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Materials Needed:
-60 11” latex balloons-30 white, 15 red, 15 blue
-1 pack of balloon decorating strips
-Balloon Pump
-Scissors
-Tape

Instructions:
1.Inflate all 60 of your balloons using the balloon pump. Make sure to not over inflate the balloons, you want them to be about 3/4 full so they are easy to work with.
2.Cut 6 pieces of balloon decorating strip, each measuring about 20” long. You will need 3 pieces of white and 3 pieces of blue balloon strip. Tape one end of each piece of balloon strip to a surface so they don’t move around while you are working with them.
3.Take 3 of the inflated white balloons and tie them together using a knot at the base of the balloon necks, about 1” down from the inflation point. Do this with the remaining 2 sets of white balloons so that you have 2 sets of 3 tied together white balloons. These will be the main support structures for your archway.
4.-6.Take 1 set of 3 tied together white balloons and begin attaching inflated red balloons to it by tying a knot in the neck of the red balloon and then threading it through the hole in the middle of one strand of balloon strip until it comes out the other side. Then take another inflated red balloon and do the same thing, threading it through until it comes out the other side and ties itself off onto the first red balloon. Make sure that each red balloon is touching another red balloon as you go along so that they form a continuous line across the top center portion of your archway structure.(See photo for guidance) When you have added all 15 red balloons move on to step 7. If you need to take a break at this point, deflate your partially completed archway and store your materials in a cool, dry place until you are ready to continue working on it
